Volcanoes!

Explosions, flowing lava, island formation, and mountain building! Come join us for five weeks of exploring volcanoes. We’ll learn through hands-on, interactive activities about how different types of volcanoes are formed, what makes them erupt, and how they are constantly changing the surface of our Earth.

Week 1 (2/7) – Volcano Basics

Materials: Library Books, coloring pages, crayons, pencils, white paper, markers, 3 bags flour, 3 big containers salt, 1 small container cooking oil, 6 cups water, 3 large bowls, 3 baking pans (turkey pans or shallow and wide plastic tubs), red food coloring, 1 bottle liquid detergent, 1 small container baking soda, 3 bottles vinegar, 3 - 1 cup measuring cups, 3 - 1 tbs. measuring spoons, 3 large spoons, multi-colored construction paper, glue (1 per child), tape (scotch and/or masking – 12), rocks & sand (pile of each)

Week 2 (2/14) – Volcanoes Up Close

Materials: Library Books, coloring pages, crayons, pencils, white paper, markers, 24 paper plates, 6 vanilla frosting containers, 6 plastic knives, 2 boxes of graham crackers, 12 hard-boiled brown eggs, construction paper (lots of brown, red, and orange, plus others), scissors (1 per child), glue (1 per child), Shoe boxes (1 per child), construction paper, rocks & sand (pile of each), pieces of sticks, clay (enough for all students)
