Marine / Operations / First of all, why I choose to play sport? The fact is because when I was young, I was very outgoing and I ran all around the places. So to tire me, my mother let me choose a sport. I was pretty good in a lot of sports that is why I decided when I was eleven years old to become a physical education teacher. However, I was surprised to find that many students didn’t care at all about sports and were not motivated at all. Nevertheless, I told myself that since I have wanted to be a physical education teacher for so long that I should stay in the same field. Then, I chose to go to the same university for being a sport teacher, where I knew that I could have other option like Sport Management. I took information on this option, because the degree matched my personality as a talkative and outgoing person who can manage people and conflicts. Then, my English teacher who arranges foreign exchange opportunities shared with me that Management and Marketing are U.S. concepts, and that learning “Sports Management” here would be an advantage. In addition, living in the U.S. would improve my English and raise my business career prospects in France. Now, I think when I will go back to France I will pursue a careerin sports tourism to apply the fundamentals of management and marketing. /
Rudy / Operations / I have been involved in some way shape or form with sports since I can remember. I was either a spectator or physically involved. My father being a big sports fan himself was the one who introduced me to all sports. His passion being soccer, he was eager for me to follow in his foot steps, but my passion became basketball. I can remember going out to the local basketball court after watching a game on TV and trying to emulate every move I saw. I began playing organized basketball at the age of 10 at the local boys and girls club. I play for my Jr high schools basketball team and also played on my high schools basketball. After high school I played at local recreation leagues and where ever I could find anyone playing. After coming to CSUB in summer of 2005 and finding that the school offered a Sports Management concentration I was sold. If I could some how be involved in some way with basketball that would be my dream job, but my ultimate goal is become the general manager for the Los Angeles Clippers. /
MiShawn / Special Projects & Promotions / Growing up in a household with two older brothers, naturally, I was socialized into the world of sports. I enjoyed being in a competitive atmosphere; this competitive desire flourished as I began to compete athletically with my peers. I began to love sports in general, particularly track & field and basketball. I competed in both sports most of my life until a fatal sports injury, a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). As time proceeded my desire to compete became unrealistic, especially beyond the high school level. My interest in sports never ceased, which contributed to my decision to major in an area that involved sports. My initial thought was kinesiology, however sports management seemed more suitable for me. I liked the idea of a correlation between the corporate world and sports. I believe having a passion for sports and being a business oriented individual makes me a good candidate as a future sports manager. My dream job is to work for the NBA. Currently gaining experience with the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, my interests so far include, but are not limited to public relations and community relations. I am also considering the area of sports marketing. /
Jeff B. / Promotions / Sports have been a major focus and influence in my life since age five. I began playing AYSO Soccer and GBA baseball locally, and at age ten started competing in the Kern County Junior Golf Association. The first year I played competitive golf I won the year ending championship as well as a couple other tournaments in between. My senior year in high school I led the SYL league in lowest scoring average and qualified for the state championships in golf. Going on to BC after graduating from South High in ’93, I finished second in lowest scoring average in the WSC my second year. After transferring to CSUB, I began playing on the brand new men’s golf team in its first two years of existence. In my final year of collegiate golf, I was part of a second-year team that finished eleventh in the NCAA Div. II Nationals (’98- the year CSUB won the Sears Cup for best overall Div. II school athletically). Since college, I have played in the ’98 US Amateur, the California State Amateur three times, and have won the Player of the Year for KernCounty three times as an amateur. In ’01, I finally broke through and won the 50th annual Kern County Amateur by two shots over a young and talented player named D.J. Fernando, which is probably my biggest win in tournament play. After turning professional in 2003, I earned my most lucrative payday to date when I won $9,500 out of a possible $10,000 purse in the local Supreme Bean Skins Game. I still have aspirations to play professionally; however my life is busy with working as Assistant Pro at Sundale Country Club, giving golf lessons to earn a little extra money. With my degree, I am hoping to make myself more marketable in any industry. If playing golf for a living doesn’t work out, then I could see myself working as a Director of Golf or Head Professional at a nice resort or country club. /
Jacob / Sales / My sport career began when is was about four years old. I started out playing soccer in the AYSO league forabout six or seven years and then made the decision toplay for a local club team. Also during this time I was playing baseball, however, baseball did not last as long as soccer did. The game was a little to slow for me. I continued playing soccer until my Sophomore year of
High School where I gave the game up for golf. I am still playing golf and I am actually playing for Cal State Bakersfield.Sports have been in my family ever since I was born, especially on my Dad's side of the family. My sister is also an athlete. She plays softball for the University of Pacific where she was awarded All American. So as you can
see sports are very important to me and my family. This is why I have chosen my business degree with the concentration in Sport Management. /
Elizabeth / Secretary / I was first introduced to gymnastics when I was four and began with AmericanAcademy of Gymnastics when I was five. I quickly progressed through the levels. Before I knew it, I was competing as a level 8 gymnast. While in level 8, I was the state champion on vault for my age both years. My second year I swept state; I took first place on every event and all around, and took first place on vault a regionals. The summer after my second season of level 8 and began training level 9 I began cheerleading for Centennial High School, and eventually tutored by coach Jennifer Dunn – also the head coach for American Cheer at American Academy of Gymnastics. She saw my tumbling skills and recruited me for her competitive cheerleading squad at American. I cheered under Jennifer Dunn for two years at American and at Centennial. At the end of my second year for American, injuries prevented me from further competition. Since then I have worked at AmericanAcademy of Gymnastics as gymnastics coach, recreational program director, and office manager.
I have grown up in the sports world. I always knew I wanted to work in the sports industry. I feel that my true passion and expertise are best used in the practice of management and organizational leadership. /

My future sports goals: I hope to one day coach at the Division I collegiate level in basketball and aspire to making to the NBA as head coach/GM. I want to finish my B.S. in Sport Management and get a Masters in Sport Management /
Taes / E-Marketing / I have been involved in sports longer than I can actually remember. Since the age of 4, I have been involved in soccer. I have also played other various sports and activities such as basketball, football and martial arts. I really became involved physically and mentally involved in a certain sport when I was trained by the World Full Contact Champion in martial arts and from that moment, I knew that it had become more than a mere hobby. Even
though I am not a sports management/marketing major, I have always wanted to take a sports marketing class and I am always willing to keep my future options open in regards to a possible marketing major. /
Matt / Operations / At an early age, I indulged in a few sports to give me a little athletic diversity. Mostly, though, my life has revolved around baseball. At two weeks old, I attended my first Dodger game and have been
devoted since. Nights echoed with the voice of Vin Scully from the radio and winters were filled with the Los Angeles Kings, a Luc Robitaille and Bob Miller hibernation until spring training. A young lad in San Pedro could be a celebrated fan of Los Angeles teams, a position I savored until our move to OrangeCounty when I turned nine. A childhood in Buena Park is no childhood for a Dodger fan. Those were the troubled times. As I entered high school, I played three years of second base for the Kennedy Fighting Irish. In my eleventh grade year, I determined to pursue other avenues and departed high school baseball for the thrill of Little League coaching. Already a dedicated Little League volunteer for five years as Chief Scorekeeper, I excelled as an assistant coach and manager before pursuing a college degree. I signed up for a sport management class on a whim, only to find that it is the only profession to hold such a deep appeal to me. Also, upon my arrival in Bakersfield, I became a founding father for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity on campus, which altered the course of my life. I was honored to become the first chapter president. I have since dedicated myself to my internship with the Bakersfield Condors, which will become permanent upon my elusive graduation from CSUB. /
Alex / Promotions / I am 22 and have been interested in sports for my entire life. My passion for sports started long before I can remember. My father is a baseball fan and I took up an interest in the sport about the time I learned to walk. I was told that I always had a ball in my hand and was always throwing it. When I was 4 years old, my parents put me into tee-ball and I fell in love. From that time until I was 19, I was playing baseball pretty much year round. While my ultimate goal was to someday play in the Major Leagues, that dream fizzled out after playing 2 years at TaftCollege. I made the very difficult decision to hang up my cleats. The aspect that I feel makes me passionate about sports is the competition. Growing up I always hated to lose and always wanted to be the best. I still feel that way, it is just not in sports competition anymore. Now my desire to be the best is directed in school and my current field of work. Since my dream of playing for a professional baseball team is no longer a reality, my new dream and academic pursuit is to become a high ranking official for a Major League Baseball team. I would love to be the General Manager because they pretty much run the team. It will take a lot of hard work and dedication but I feel that I have the drive and the determination to reach my. /
Mike L. / Sales (mgr.) / I am an Applied Econ major with a concentration in Sports Management/Business. When I am done with school I wish to stay in the world of pro sports and work my way up to being a GM or Vice President of a major professional sports thing. the day I was turned onto sports was when I was 7 years old and when to my first Cleveland browns game at their old field before they moved. I am a huge Buckeye fan and the sport I have the best knowledge of is baseball. I was a swimmer for CSUB. I credit all my sports knowledge to my father. /
Christina / Sponsorship / I have been involved in sports ever since elementary school. I have always been an active and competitive athlete. A lot of that has to do with my dad raising me. I was “Daddy’s Little Girl” or should I say “Daddy’s little boy he never had.” My dad lived in a house full of girls, which included his wife and 3 daughters so he needs at least an active and athletic girl. I was always the tom boy and I loved playing football and catch with the boys.
Being active was who I was and I loved it. I have done track and field since fourth grade and I still compete for CSUB. I want to pursue a career in sports management because I love being in the atmosphere of competition and I enjoy creating that atmosphere for others to enjoy also. /
Mike P. / Promotions / My name is Mike Puskarich and I'm a Senior at CSUB. I am a Public Administration major with a minor in Business Administration. I'm taking this class because I need credits to graduate and, for the first time in my academic career, I can choose a class that I really want to take. I have always had an intense interest in sports. Sports are my passion. This has been the case ever since I could
hold a football or even read the back of a Topps baseball card. I can remember, as a kid, memorizing the stats for all of the players on the Oakland Athletics and going to the games to watch Mark McGuirre and Jose Canseco hit home runs left and right. My first memory of football was watching Joe Montana and Jerry Rice hook up for touchdowns
in the Super Bowl. I actually got to go see Kareem Abdual Jabar and Magic Johnson play. Sports have served a much greater purpose in my life than as entertainment or a form of exercise. Sports have given me the chance to make friends and build relationships. Sports have given me the chance to compete and be emotional. These are qualities I
wouldn't trade for anything. I have seen how sports can take you to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Sports bend us but don't break us. Even when the big game has been lost, we can take solace in the fact that there will always be another game. Sports has a language that we all speak. /
Juan / Operations / I became interested in sports, since my childhood
friend Cassidy Cerda introduced me to the game of
football. He taught me the concept of the game as well as basic rules and regulations. It wasn't until I began to watch sports regularly that I became fascinated with them. I like to watch certain individuals play rather than a team, since the leadership and poise a player has can determine how their team does. Players such; as Kevin
Garnett, Barry Sanders, and LaDainian Tomlinson are more interested in the team concept than individual accomplishment while they play or played the game which makes it more exciting to watch. I played linebacker and tight end for South High. I am more interested in having a pick up game with friends then I am playing for a team. I am mainly interested in football, baseball, basketball, and boxing. I would like to become a sports analyst or a sports writer for a major media network. I would like to have some sort of interaction with the athletes, the reason why I would like to become a sports writer or sports analyst. From this class I would like to understand how small market teams, such as the Kansas City Royals, are expected to compete with such giants as, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. /
John Michael / Marketing / I've thrown the javelin in college, but I've been involved in sports for as long as I can remember. From tee-ball to little league football to golfing, I’ve always loved playing sports. Finally growing out of every little boys dream to become a pro baseball player, I realized just how many opportunities there are to work in the field of sports. At one time I was even considering being an agent. That thought is still in the back of my mind. Thinking back as
a kid, all I saw were the guys on the field, but as you grow up you realize just how many people it takes to run a team. The realization of this is really what has kept me so interested in the world of sports. I want to further my knowledge of what careers would be a possibility for me to pursue. /
