Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative
Touchstone Energy Scholarship
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative provides seven-$3,000 scholarships to students in local school districts. Special consideration is given to financial need, extracurricular school activities, community involvement, recommendations and the students’ personal analysis (see judging criteria below).
Students may apply for this scholarship if:
- they attend one of the following South Carolina Schools: Irmo, Dutch Fork, Chapin, Saluda, Batesburg-Leesville, Gilbert, Lexington, Pelion, River Bluff, White Knoll, Spring Hill or Airport; or
- the student attends another school in South Carolina,but their primary residence receives electricity from Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative.
I.Qualifications
- The Touchstone Energy/ Spirit of Cooperation Scholarship is intended to recognize students who:
- needfinancial assistance
- are high school seniors
- have at least a solid B grade average
- are active in service to others
- are goal oriented with a solid educational plan for the future
- will NOT receive numerous or full scholarships and grants.
- Family members (sister, brother, son, daughter, grandchild, niece, or nephew) of Mid-Carolina Electric employees, board members and their spouses are not eligible.
- Application Process
- Applications should be returned to Mid-Carolina Electric offices byMarch 3, 2017. Applications not received by March 3 will not be considered so please plan accordingly if you are mailing the application since the USPS can take several days to deliver mail.
- If chosen as a semi-finalist, a personal interview is required. Interviews will be conductedonly on March 14, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
III.Awarding Scholarships
- Winners are asked to attend Mid-Carolina’s annual meeting onApril7, 2017at Lexington High School.
IV.Judging Criteria
a.The Touchstone Energy/Spirit of Cooperation Scholarship is intended to recognize those students who meet the above qualifications. The judges’ selections are based as follows:
1.Financial need40 points
2.Extracurricular activities35 points
3.Community involvement15 points
4.Personal Analysis and Interview 10 points

- Personal analysis – Write brief statements providing the following information:
- What are your financial needs in regards to this scholarship?
- What word, phrase, poem or song best describes you and why.
- What are your aspirations for 5 years and 10 years from now?
- Submit two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher. Recommendations should be mailed with your completed application.
- High school transcripts should accompany the student’s application.
- If selected as a semi-finalist, apersonal interview isrequired on March 14, 2017.
