GuidelinesforMFEC2015 PosterContest

“Spending, Saving, Sharing”

“Spending, Saving, Sharing.”Teaching children different uses of money – suchasspending, saving, and sharing – encourages children tothinkaboutbudgetingresponsibly at an early age. Children often see us spending. Hopefully, they see us sharing. They may not see us saving. Teaching children about these concepts allows them to understand that they have choices to make concerning money and that there are options for money use other than just spending on immediate needs and wants.

In “filling their jars”, creativityishighlyencouraged, aslongaschildrenaddressthe different concepts.

•Spend - purchase goods and services to satisfy needs and wants

•Save - set aside money for future needs and wants

•Share - donate money to help people, animals and the environment

Depending on grade level and the ability to understand more complex concepts, teachers may want to set certain dollar amounts and encourage children to divide up their money (e.g. Total of $100, how much would you spend, save, share?)
