Job Purpose:

Brandon Trust cafes provide employment for people with learning disabilities within a thriving café environment. We are looking for someone eager to develop their career by managing our new café at the Vassall Centre in Fishponds, Bristol.

Brandon Trust and VC Conferences have developed a partnership to create a brand new café at the Vassall Centre which will offer employment and training opportunities for people with learning disabilities. The café will serve fresh and delicious food to the tenants of the Centre and provide a buffet service for the groups that host training and conferences there. The Centre itself is a vibrant hub welcoming 25,000 – 30,000 visitors a year.

Ideal candidates will be cheerful, creative and hard working. They will relish the opportunity to launch the café and develop it into a successful business.

Main Duties:

·  Manage the café on a day-to-day basis

·  Prepare, cook and present food to a high standard

·  Manage and supervise the Assistant Café Manager

·  Assist with the recruitment of Cafe Assistants.

·  Manage the Cafe Assistants: give training/refresh staff knowledge of café duties and safety requirements; delegate responsibilities, organise work rotas and hold supervisions.

·  Identify and communicate with potential buffet customers

·  Maintain a healthy working relationship with VC Conferences

·  Undertake marketing activity to increase café and buffet sales

·  Deliver excellent customer service

·  Stock management and planning

·  Work with the Project Co-ordinator in creating menu plans

·  Ensure the kitchen, serving and seating area are kept clean and tidy

·  Ensure food hygiene and health & safety procedures are followed at all times

·  Undertake marketing activity where necessary to increase café sales

·  Work with the Project Co-ordinator to keep the project within its budget, keeping a record of and monitoring expenditure and income.

·  Work in accordance with the key policies and procedures of Brandon Trust

Key Relationships:

Café team and other Brandon Trust staff; people with learning disabilities and their families; suppliers; VC Conferences staff; tenant organisations at the Centre; organisations and groups using the training and conference facilities; visitors to the Centre.

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Qualifications
·  Level 2 Catering / hospitality qualification
·  Level 2 Maths and English qualifications (or able to demonstrate this capacity through assessment)
·  Full drivers’ licence and willing to use own transport on Trust business (mileage will be paid) / ·  Food Hygiene qualification
·  Health and social care diploma
·  Further catering / hospitality qualifications
Experience
·  Minimum 1 year in a supervisory position in a catering environment
·  Minimum 2 years catering experience
·  A strong working knowledge of food safety management
·  Proven track record of managing staff
·  Customer service, including dealing with complaints or difficult situations / ·  Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
