2ND- 3RD MARCH 2017

SPECTRE INTERNATIONAL LTD 40TH SUGAR INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS MEETING REPORT.

The organization wishes to deviate from the standard institutional reporting means for the 1st and 2nd Quarters, 2016/2017 and to give a highlight on certain key areas of concern:

Spectre international ltdSuspended normal operations from the month of October last year 2016 to-date. Thiswas create room for the construction work involving the replacement of the alcohol fermentation vessels, which got heavily corroded. The vessels were originally made of mild steel plates (MS) plates and are currently being replaced with stainless steel (SS) plates.

 The organization has just resumed the exercise of molasses collection to the plant in readiness for start-up once the above mentioned project is completed.

Movement of molasses to Uganda-based distilleries. we are requesting the Directorate to get to the fact finding mission on this and to find out if:

There is enough molasses to run the local distillers today so as to justify this movement andif not then there is urgent need to put the desired controls in place to cushion the local investment and to safe guard the possible loss of jobs that could be prompted by the under capacity performance of the distilleries due to lack of enough raw molasses.

There exists a legislation to check on the same, if not, then let the desired action be taken.

Sky –rocketing prices of raw molasses – it is clear that by continued invitation of distillers to this Sugar Industry stakeholders meeting and more often than not, the cane pricing and by extension the going price of raw processed sugar have always remained key on the agenda. May I on-behalf of the distillers beg to draw the attention of the directorate to the need to explore the possibility of putting a check on this, with close and collective understanding of the sugar millers as a means of cushioning the distillers from the higher non-competitive costs of production.

Explore the possibility and convenience by the sugar directorate, the costing of the raw molasses by the millers to distillers based on the available sugars and NOT the absolute tonnage costing as it is currently (This matter had earlier been raised in one of the stakeholders meeting during the cross-cutting issues session BUT so far NO response has come forth).
