Young Professional Ambassador

AYoung Professional (YP) Ambassador may have better insight into their members’ needs, which can lead to better planning and budgeting, diverse programming, and better relationships among chapter members.

Potential Benefits for Your Chapter

ISACA chapters with a Young Professional (YP) Ambassador may have better insight into their members’ needs, which can lead to better planning and budgeting, diverse programming, and better relationships among chapter members. The YP Ambassador program may not be a perfect fit at this time for your chapter; however, the YP Subcommittee strongly encourages all chapters to engage the ever- and rapidly growing young professional community in your area.

Potential Benefits for the Ambassador

Individuals in this role can earn CPE credit for their contribution, and will have more exposure to the local chapter board and members in their area. This person may be groomed to become a local chapter leader and/or serve as a volunteer with ISACA at the international level. The ambassador will also likely hone their time management and event planning skills.

Importance of role

With ever-growing membership, ISACA is focused on providing value-added guidance to its members. Several years ago, ISACA formed the Young Professionals Subcommittee (YPS) to assist the association in identifying and fulfilling the professional requirements and aspirations of young professionals in ISACA. Younger members represent the future of the profession, and their requirements can helped be met through guidance and support from ISACA. Keeping these requirements in mind ISACA recommends chapters create a YP Ambassador position in their chapter.

Goals & Objectives:

The YP Ambassador should have the following goals and objectives:

·  Facilitate and create an environment of open communication for young professionals,

·  Recognize the aspirations and needs of the young professional community, and

·  Engage young professionals at the local level whenever and however possible.

Description of Role:

ISACA defines young professionals as members under the age of 36. Ideally, the YP Ambassador should be younger than 36. He/she should liaise with the local chapter board when communicating the requirements and aspirations of young professionals. Other duties of the position may include:

·  Promoting YP-specific programs

·  Understanding the requirements of the YP community

·  Organizing programs and events to facilitate communication among YPs

·  Regularly interacting with YPs at events, meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.

·  Promoting the value of ISACA’s certifications to YPs and focusing on YPs who recently took an ISACA certification exam

·  Identifying senior members in ISACA (and other related organizations) to assist in mentoring and providing guidance to YPs

·  Providing feedback (activities completed, participation, activities planned, etc.) to the local chapter and the YP Subcommittee twice a year or as requested.

·  Organize at least one YP-focused event in a year

Selection Criteria:

The YP ambassador should be identified and selected by the local chapter board. When choosing someone to serve as the ambassador, the following items should be considered:

·  Be under the age of 36

·  Have good communication and interpersonal skills

·  Willing to serve as liaison between young professionals and the chapter board

·  Possess good organizational skills

·  Be an active user of 2.0 networking tools (i.e., LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

The chapter board should cooperate with the YP Ambassador and help him/her organize events focused on YPs. Interaction with the ambassador ensures the board understands the requirements and needs of YPs. The chapter board should focus on creating a culture of open communication with the YP ambassador by encouraging creative and novel ideas.

A list of Events focused on YPs can be found in the YP Event Toolkit(zip file).
