Essential Criteria

·  Deep content knowledge and proven pedagogical content knowledge in music

·  Demonstrated expertise and experience in arts practice with explicit links to either literacy or numeracy

·  Capacity to implement pedagogical change through collaboration with teachers in their own working environments

·  Proven capacity to produce art work of professional standard

·  Capacity and willingness to work beyond the timetabled school day

·  Capacity and willingness to contribute to hybrid/cross art practical projects involving other professional artists, students, teachers and the wider community

·  Capacity and willingness to lead, design and deliver leading practice arts projects in holiday and/or school term times

·  have high degree of competence in stage management, technical production and performance logistics;

·  have excellent knowledge of the K-12 music syllabi in NSW (music production software expertise highly desirable);

·  have a current NSW drivers license and the capacity to travel independently between school learning venues within the one day if necessary

·  have proven experience as a leader of brass and woodwind training ensembles together with appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent;

·  have extensive knowledge of the concert band repertoire;

·  have extensive knowledge of the mainstream brass and woodwind instrumental and solo repertoire;

·  have the ability to develop capacity in generalist primary classroom teachers to lead student learning in music;

·  have the ability to work with specialist music secondary teachers to lead student learning in instrumental music;

**Please note that there may be the possibility of an additional 0.2 fte employment in one of our schools.

·  Salary offered for this position is in accordance with the Teachers (Archdiocese of Sydney, Dioceses of Broken Bay and Parramatta) Enterprise Agreement

SHORTLISTING

Approximately one week after the closing date a selection panel of a least three members will shortlist the applications, inviting for interview the applicants who best meet all the selection criteria.

INTERVIEW

If you are being invited for interview you will receive a phone call advising you of the time and location. REFEREES

DECISION

CONTEXT

The Specialist Teacher- Music works within System Learning, in the Captivate Program, working with students and teachers in learning spaces, Primary and Secondary.

System Learning supports learning and teaching in schools in partnership with school leadership teams on the goals of formation, literacy and/or numeracy.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position supports the system strategic intent of improving learning outcomes for all students and promoting a professional and rewarding working life for teachers.

Key accountabilities are:

·  Contribution to the leadership, design and delivery of student learning opportunities through ‘hub school’ programs, professional arts practices, modelling professional arts practice and linking students to contemporary artists

·  Contribution to the leadership, design and delivery of professional learning-particularly with a focus on building teacher capacity to engage students in deep learning through the arts.

·  Implementation of System Learning priorities and initiatives-particularly in the alignment of the Captivate program and deep learning classroom based activities/experiences/rich and open tasks and learning scaffolds in the arts.

·  Application of specialist arts pedagogical and discipline knowledge to enrich, deepen and transfer learning in the arts (including media) to student learning outcomes in formation, literacy and numeracy

·  Foster and develop deep learning/challenging pedagogy action research project partnerships in the arts

·  Lead instrumental string, brass or woodwind Captivate programs and collaborate with school leadership teams, CAPA staff and classroom teachers to further enhance and develop creative and performing arts instrumental music programs and practices in and beyond the classroom

The broad focus of the role is to support the Captivate Music team to build leading practice in school communities in the delivery of instrumental music learning through timetabled class groups and extra-curricular ensembles so as to ensure that all our students:

·  have access to instrumental music learning regardless of their geographic position in the diocese;

·  with the requisite talent/skill are encouraged and extended in their specialist instrumental musical development;

·  develop a greater understanding of music in the liturgy and the historic place of music in worship

In addition the Captivate Music team will:

·  oversee the development of all beginner string, brass and woodwind extra-curricular CAPTIVATE music programs & ensembles;

·  coordinate the selection of identified students for inclusion in training instrumental ensembles;

·  liaise with school leadership and school (inc music) staff in coordinating the co-construction of these ensembles;

·  work directly with schools in the implementation of a primary school music literacy program;

·  liaise with school music staff in fostering leading practice for stage 3 and 4 music learning outcomes;

Key team accountabilities are:

·  ensure best practice methods and techniques are utilised in all instrumental classrooms and ensembles;

·  in consultation with the Team Leader, Performing Arts Initiatives, build learning pathways for students between primary and secondary schools in the diocese and develop and implement inclusive music & music literacy programs in increasing numbers of primary schools;

·  ensure repertoire selection represents a balance of genres which enables students to develop a wide range of musical experience and performance practice while being sympathetic to Catholic Identity in the selection of secular works.
