Mmmm….Minutes!!!

September 19th, 2007

Time: 8:00 pm

Location: Quarry Room

Presider: Mr. Kevin Sullivan

Special Presenters: Christine, Kayla, and Mitchell Tibbits from Team Kayla

Hello, everyone, and welcome to another scrumdittlyumptious edition of Circle K Minutes: Longer than Seconds, More Concise than Hours! Let’s get right to it!

-We started off the same way we do: saying the Circle K pledge. Eventually, you all will know that lovely thing by heart. Whoo-hoo!

-Perhaps the most important part of the meeting was with members of Team Kayla. Christine Tibbits is Kayla Tibbits mother, and Kayla suffers from Type I Diabetes. What is Type I Diabetes, you ask? Well, Type I Diabetes is when a person lacks a sufficient amount of insulin. Kayla needs insulin, so she gets four shots a day, as well as four blood tests. Kayla has had diabetes since the age of three, so when you do the math, that’s a lot of shots. All in all, Team Kayla’s presentation was quite moving, yet sad, too.

-So why did we have Team Kayla come? Well, the JDRF Walk is coming on Saturday, and we’re asking you to attend! We will support Team Kayla to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The walk will be held September 29th, 2007 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, from 8:30 am to early afternoon. If you are interested, let me know ASAP. IF YOU ARE SURE YOU ARE ATTENDING, YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE! SEE ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS WITH THIS!

Next, Kevin talked about some service opportunities. And here they are:

  1. This Tuesday, September 25th, Berea Kiwanis is looking for 6-8 Circle K-ers to serve food at the Berea Kiwanis President’s Installation. The event will be held at St. Paul’s LutheranChurch, from 5:30—7:30 pm (Yes, this is a different time slot than last week). If you are interested, please email me ASAP!
  1. On Sunday, September 30th, BereaHigh School will hold its annual 5k Run. They will need help from 8:00 am—9:30 am.
  1. The Suicide Prevention Walk will be held Sunday, September 30th from 5:00 pm.-9:00 pm. Circle Kers will use lanterns to the light the paths of those who decide to walk around the zoo. More info will follow at this week’s meeting.
  1. And then comes the biggie: THE DISTRICT SERVICE PROJECT, OR DSP! The District Service Project is a day of service for all the many Circle K Chapters in the Ohio District. One school gets to host this event every year, and guess who’s doing it this time around? No, not ClevelandStateUniversity, silly! Yes! YES! BALDWIN-WALLACECOLLEGE! This is a huge honor for our chapter, and We Would Love It If You Came and Served! We will be doing service around the Berea Area. The event starts at 8:00 am and ends at 4 pm. More information will follow in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in these projects, email me at .

-After the service announcements, we played an icebreaker where we swapped IDs and such. It was crazy!

-Afterwards, the meeting was adjourned.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, 9/26 in the Quarry Room

And that about does it. See you next time!
