Agenda item: / General update on USLC Activities
  • Priscilla asked that Randy give an update on the status of North Dakota and natural catastrophe’s. North Dakota has received some response from other programs, but the challenge exists because of economic climate. There was a proposal that was put forth several years ago to create a fund from a portion of the US accreditation fees to assist with natural disasters. The NALC is addressing this currently.
  • Special Olympics Inc. has submitted a grant request to the Department of Justice for some stimulus funds that will support ongoing Special Olympics activities. They do not anticipate a response for 2-3 months.
  • USLC voted to allow the National Games to be included in the SOCIP policy.
  • Special Olympics has received funding to support Project Unify for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • IAC is continuing to work on the athlete participation fees as they are written in the general rules.

  • Ann was unable to make the call and has provided a draft for the questionnaire. She has requested that one or two other people assist her in finalizing the questions so they can be submitted.
  • It was suggested that we look at the NASOP salary survey as an additional tool to get information.

Agenda item: / Athlete Input Council
Discussion: / Paul reported back on a survey developed in January regarding National Games vs World Games participation. Response was very good. Paula plans to address the issue with Pennsylvania submitting 20+ responses directly with Matt Aaron.
Priscilla requested that additional consideration be given to other potential surveys for the Athlete Input Council.
Paul had suggested that there we look at ongoing issues with Unified Sports. Lois asked that we look at relevancy of program from athlete perspective.

Agenda item: / Identification and recognition of innovative program initiatives
Discussion: / Response at the US Business Meeting was very positive, generally people liked the concept and it was a great way to recognize staff.
Recommendations going forward:
  • Confirm there are 5 areas of recognition
  • Initial information distributed 4-5 months ahead of time
  • Look at Sponsorship of awards for financial component
  • Need to confirm and get information added to KMS
  • Work with Professional Development Committee to look at alternative ways to include the PIC awards. i.e. earlier in the conference or interspersed.
Appreciate that the recognition for innovations is not just program activities based, but will potentially look at development, Personnel and Board.
