JOB TITLE:County Volunteer Chairperson

PURPOSE:To oversee a comprehensive Volunteer Management System (recruit, screen, orient, place, train, supervise, evaluate and provide recognition) which will ensure a sufficient number of volunteers for staffing all County competition events, committees, management teams, and coaching needs of the County in a safe and healthy environment while minimizing risks to athletes, family members and other volunteers.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Set up and maintain a system/process for responding to volunteer inquiries or recruitment responses to include screening, placement, and orientation, in conjunction with County Director
  • Recruit, place and train members of the Volunteer Committee and all volunteers associated with the committee
  • Adhere to Florida Special Olympics specific and SOI policies regarding volunteer application and screening
  • Attend and fully participate in County Management Team meetings
  • Ensure that the Volunteer Management plan is updated annually to reflect the programs needs for the coming year and implemented. Specific measurable objectives should be included.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive volunteer computer database. Ideally, the data should include all contact information, along with notations such as date of placement, trainings attended, responsibilities/roles performed, recognitions received and other pertinent information.
  • Conduct volunteer recruitment campaigns as appropriate to fill the identified needs
  • Ensure that all volunteers receive appropriate training including General Orientation and Protective Behaviors prior to their assignment
  • Develop and implement an on-goingcounty level volunteer recognition system and provide some form of recognition annually to committee members, coaches, and other “long term” volunteers.
  • Ensure all committee chairs, event chairs, and local directors are aware of the Special Olympics Florida policies on the volunteer screening process
  • Ensure proper applications, forms and other files regarding volunteers are on file and kept in a secure location and all information is kept confidential and only shared on a need to know basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:The volunteer must:

1)Be committed to the philosophy, needs and rewards of volunteerism

2)Have good organizational,computer and communications skills

3)Able to articulate the volunteer needs to the community

4)Able to delegate committee responsibilities to subcommittee chairpersons
