Roles and Responsibilities Memorandum of Understanding

Interns and Support providers are to review this document and sign a copy of the form and return to NationalUniversity Internship Coordinator. NU supervisors and Site Administrators will review and sign this form during “supervised teaching”.

Special Education Intern Teacher

Complete Internship Credential Packet and meet with NU Credential Advisor

Complete NU Education Specialist Level I course work within 2 years of receiving Internship Credential

Attend EXC 655I Intern Induction Seminar as soon as possible after becoming an Intern. Complete Induction Plan with district/agency Intern Support Provider.

Schedule monthly classroom visits with Intern Support Provider

Contact Intern Support Provider weekly for assistance in fulfilling district teaching responsibilities

Complete Education Specialist Level I portfolio requirements with assistance from Intern Support Provider

Apply for 9 weeks of “supervised teaching” during Specialization Courses. Download a copy of the Student Teaching Handbook from the NU website and review the policies and procedures for Special Education.

Schedule observation appointments with NU supervisor for the “supervised teaching” portion of the credential program. Prepare and e-mail lesson plans to your NU supervisor prior to each scheduled observation.

Complete Education Specialist Level I credential application when coursework and supervised teaching experiences are complete.

Intern Support Provider

Develop a confidential, collegial mentoring relationship with Special Education Intern.

Establish a meeting schedule with Intern to reflect on practice and professional growth.

Acquire knowledge of NU Internship program.

Attend Intern Support Provider meetings with NU faculty.

Arrange for classroom visits and observations of your assigned Intern

Examine K-12 student work samples with the Intern to study the impact of instruction on student learning.

Monitor and guide the connection between the Intern’s credential program and application of skills/knowledge in the classroom

Create ongoing communication (weekly) with Intern to support professional growth.

Maintain required documentation of your observations, classroom visits, and contacts with your assigned Intern.

Site Administrator

Help to facilitate the mentoring relationship between the Intern Support Provider and the Intern assigned in your school.

Become familiar with the Internship program and requirements.

Provide feedback to the Intern regarding instruction practice and expectations of the school and district.

Observe Intern during the “supervised teaching” phase of the credential program. (The site administrator may choose to assign the formal observation and evaluation tasks to an Assistant Administrator or Master teacher.)

Complete an NU summative evaluation of the Intern’s classroom teaching and professional performance.

NationalUniversity Supervisor

Contact Intern at the beginning of the “supervised teaching” portion of the credential program. Clarify expectations (4 observations and 2 evaluations) with the Intern.

Contact the site administrator regarding the “supervised teaching” portion of the program. Provide forms for observation and evaluation, along with a Student Teaching Handbook.

Arrange for observations and debriefing conferences with Intern.

Contact Intern Support Provider regarding your scheduled observations and invite Intern Support Provider to attend.

Complete observations and evaluations and submit forms (along with Site Administrator forms) to Student Teaching Office.
