Spartan Football Family

I would like to welcome you to the Spartan Football Family, it is a new era of Spartan football and we have a positive winning attitude. Football is a game of dedication, commitment, and hard work; at the same time we want to always remember it is a game and it should be fun. It is my goal as the Head Coach to set forth a plan to create a positive environment that will encompass all the expectations of the coaches, players, parents and community.

Developing a successful football program will require a complete team effort, not just that of the players and coaches, but the parents, school, and community as well. It is our responsibility to work together in all areas to provide the best opportunities for our athletes to be successful. We have set many goals for the Spartan football program, none of which will be achieved unless we all believe in the concept, “Team First”. We must always put the team ahead of ourselves and what is best for the program. We also believe in setting priorities, which are: Family, Faith, School, and Football, in that order. Communication will be a vital tool in building the level of success in which we will aspire to. My door is always open, feel free to contact us with any concerns or suggestions. I have included fifteen points of interest you need to understand about our program:

  1. We strive to treat our players like they are our sons.
  2. We coach hard, loudly, and aggressively. You are welcome to observe, but beware.
  3. Football is a loud, tough, disciplined, and emotional game. We coach it the same way.
  4. We believe, stress, and teach our priorities.
  5. We require your child’s undivided attention when we teach them.
  6. The team always comes first. We have no stars.
  7. We may require your child to be more disciplined than you do.
  8. We don’t play kids to make them happy. Athletes are played because they have a great attitude, they do the things that are required plus more, they add the most value to the team, they understand their roles on the team, their number one goal is to make the team better, and they do their job better than someone else.
  9. A parent’s influence or position makes no difference.
  10. A player is put in the best position for the team, not personal gratification.
  11. Evaluation of your child happens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  12. Players who do not work out with the team in the summer, start at the bottom of the depth chart.
  13. Publicity is used to promote our team, school, and community.
  14. My door is always open and so is my mind; please have the same attitude.
  15. Playoffs! That is the expectation every year!

Off season expectations of our athletes are: be involved in another sport or be in the weight room. We will begin monitoring your child’s whereabouts after Thanksgiving break each season. If they are not in a winter or spring sport, they are expected to be in the weight room four days a week becoming a stronger/faster athlete. Summer camp will consist of 25 workouts mostly on weekdays from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, it is highly suggested every player participates. The summer calendar will be on the school website in January each year allowing parents to plan summer vacations. I have worked in three full weeks of vacation into the summer calendar, hopefully you will be able to work your family vacations around our schedule. It is important for your child’s improvement to be at all of the summer sessions. If the there is a schedule conflict, please inform me ahead of time.

I am excited for this opportunity to be working with your most prized possessions, your children. I ensure you that I will do whatever I can, to develop their football abilities as well as their character. My goal is for our athletes to leave this program better people and the program will be more successful because they were a part of it. Yes, we will win some football games in the process, but the character and future of your child is our ultimate goal.

Sincerely,

Jeff Kuna
