Meeting was brought to order at 7:30 PM, January 5th, 2014 by Brett Jensen at the OSU Extension Center in Central Point , Oregon. (SOBA President John Jacob was in California so he asked Bret to run the meeting.)
Secretary's Report- Dana Rose
A MOTION to approve the minutes for December was PASSED by a majority vote of current SOBA members present.
Treasurer's Report- Chery Housden
We currently have $5997.46 in our SOBA account.
OSU Liaison’s Report- Rick Hilton
Rick reports that several people are retiring from the OSU Extension Center or are moving and that they are in the process of replacing them.
Regional Representative's Report- Ellen Wright (filling in for Sarah Red-Laird)
Bob Milligan from OSU is working to organize OSBA's regional business models.
Old Business
It's January. Please remember to renew you membership for 2015. Members have voting privileges and other perks like being able to borrow the extractors and books from our library.
Ellen Wright reported that to have non-profit status we need to pay $50 to OSBA, $50 to the State of Oregon, and that five SOBA members must also be OSBA members. A MOTION was made to approve paying $50 to OSBA, and $50 to the state of Oregon. MOTION PASSED by majority vote. A MOTION was made to pay for OSBA membership for SOBA's officers. Since most already were members, this meant paying for Cheryl and Dana, $40 each. MOTION PASSED.
New Business
Ag Day is May 7th and 8th. To volunteer please call Russ Williamson 541-499-8666
Ryan King spoke to us about the Ruch Community School Apiary. The kids will present their proposal in March. A MOTION was made to endorse and support The Ruch Community School Apiary. MOTION PASSED.
April 18th is SOBA Bee School. Please send an email to if you can volunteer.
The bees in the three hives of SOBA's apiary were flying.
The Oregon Honey Festival will be on October 17th in Ashland this year.
