The Audition

The audition will consist of group work, improv, cold reading, and monologue performance. Monologues will be assigned at the initial audition, and candidates will return in one week, by appointment, to perform the monologue. Auditions will be held at the Opera Center, 75 S. Tarragona Streeton January 3 at 5:00pm.

Conservatory Training

Students accepted into the company who do not have training in voice and speech, movement, acting, and Shakespeare’s language will be required to take conservatory classes. This training is essential for students who will be expected to perform outdoors, without microphones, and make themselves heard and understood. Conservatory classes for company members are offered at a reduced rate.

Financial Commitment

Tuition for one year’s involvement in the company is $250. Company members must find a community sponsor to cover this cost. Part of working in the arts is finding support in the community. If your family has a business contact who would like to sponsor you, that’s great. We offer advertising in our publicity materials and on our website to sponsors as well as tickets to shows and invitations to special events. Members are responsible for their own footwear and undergarments; all other costume pieces will be provided by the company.

Performance Opportunities

The company performs at each of these events each year. Rehearsal periods for the events are usually 4-6 weeks prior to the event. Rehearsals will be held in the evenings several nights each week (but usually not every night with the exception of the annual production). Please mark the events for which you WILL BE available for rehearsals and performances. If you will have any significant conflicts with rehearsals prior to the events or performance dates, please do not indicate that you will be available to play.

If I am accepted as a member of SETSCO, I understand that I will be required to be present and on time at all company meetings, workshops, and rehearsals. I understand that my commitment is not just to and for myself but to the company as a whole and to the work of the company. I am willing to participate in all areas of the company’s work, including acting, technical jobs, design projects, publicity, or anything else required to provide the community with first class Shakespeare performance events. I pledge my commitment fully to the company if I am selected to be a member.

Parent’s Agreement(if applicant is under 18)

If my child is accepted as a member of SETSCO, I agree to support his or her efforts fully by ensuring that my child is punctual at all times and that my child has all of the materials he or she needs for rehearsal and performance. I understand that theater is collaborative work which requires participating members to be present at all rehearsals and performances. If my child has a conflict with the schedule, I agree to let the director know before casting choices are made for the annual production and festival scenes. I understand that theater teaches my child discipline and that using SETSCO as a disciplinary tool (i.e. telling my child that he or she cannot go to rehearsal, etc. for punishment) affects the entire company adversely. I agree that I will not use my child’s involvement in the company in this way.
