President’s Report

President Clive Harrington did not present a report.

Secretary’s Report

Secretary Neill Phillips presented his report covering the last 6 months:

October General Meeting

On Friday 14th October 2011, there was no General Meeting held – however a tour was undertaken at the Adelaide Desalination Plant.

The tour was limited to 2 groups x 20 people (max. 40) with Group 1 commencing the tour at around 10:00AM followed by lunch/refreshments (provided by McConnell Dowell) at around 12:00PM with a presentation for both groups to follow after lunch. Group 2 then start the tour after lunch which went for approximately 2 hours.

Due to the logistics associated with the tour and the fact that the group was split into 2 groups, it was subsequently determined that it was unreasonable for members of Group 1 to wait around for up to 2 hours whilst Group 2 completed their tour and to then conduct a meeting followed by drinks, networking and dinner afterwards. Hence, no formal meeting took place and no official minutes were recorded.

In all a total of 32 Members undertake the tour of the Desalination Plant which was very well received and certainly not what was expected. On behalf of the Association I would like to say a big thank you to Eric Rossi, then from McConnell Dowell for arranging the tour and being the sole sponsor.

December Christmas Cocktail Function
Since there was no dinner or drinks provided at the October General Meeting, the Executive Committee decided to hold an end of year Christmas Cocktail Function on Saturday 9th December 2011.

This was held at The Astor Hotel on Pulteney Street in the City, in which members and for the first time partners (those that were brave enough to bring them along) enjoyed a great night of networking, drinks, music and nibbles to help celebrate not only Christmas, but a big ‘Thank You’ to all members from the Association for your ongoing and continued support.

The Christmas Cocktail Function was declared a success, in which a date has already been set for this year being the 30th November 2012 at avenue yet to be determined, and yes partners are again welcomed and invitations are open now to anyone who wishes to be a sponsor for the event.

Future Meetings/Tours
Just quickly, in relation to other possible venues/site to hold future meetings for the remainder of 2012, if you have any suggestions, or wish to undertake a tour or view a demonstration of anything in particular, please let the Executive Committee know or simply email .

Tour of Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) by Frank Lucks, Business Manager – Member Services

Frank Lucks, Business Manager for Member Services of the CCF (SA) took attending members on a guided tour of the newly renovated and updated training facilities of CCF (SA) which are now available and open to Local Government and Industry personnel.

Members arrived at CCF (SA) 1 South Road, Thebarton at 2:30pm to undertake the tour which went for approximately half an hour. Frank showed members all facets of training at the facility including the simulation machinery for employees/employers to provide staff the expertise and knowledge in driving expensive and heavy machinery in a controlled environment without having to worry about making a mistake on site which could result in serious injury to personnel as well as damage to property and machinery.

The new multi-million dollar facility which was funded mainly from the Federal Government caters for up to 1500 students a week and mainly focuses on the mining and civil construction industries here in South Australia, but Frank has indicated that the training available is certainly geared towards Local Government (Councils) participation also for future training and succession planning.
