Assess for Success

Assessment of student learning outcomes is a key aspect of nursing academia. How do we know we are assessing the right things? How do we know our assessments are fair? How do we know that there is consistency in our assessment practices? As we tackle these questions we will explore efficient yet effective strategies for evaluating nursing students in an attempt to determine if they are adequately prepared for professional practice. We then will look at the outcomes of our assessments to continuously and consistently improve our instructional design, pedagogy, and overall curriculum.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, the nurse will:

1.  Critique learning assessment tools for use with nursing students.

2.  Develop formative and summative assessment strategies for classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical learning experiences.

3.  Analyze remediation strategies for use with students who do not meet student learning outcomes.

4.  Use assessment data to improve the curriculum.
