International Symposium on
History of Machines and Mechanisms
HMM2004
May 12 - 15, 2004: Cassino, Italy
The HMM Symposium is an international forum for presenting and discussing historical developments in the field of MMS (Machine and Mechanism Science).
The purpose of this Symposium is to bring together historians and MMS researchers to discuss and learn from past experiences.
This is a second event of a Symposium series that has been started in 2000.
The Symposium will be held at the School of Engineering of the University of Cassino in Cassino.
from Essai sur la composition des machines by J.M Lanz. and A. Betancourt A. in Paris 1808.
It is interesting to know:
- people and facts from the past
- historical evolution of theories and research groups
- technical background on mechanism design and designers
It is important to know and become aware on:
- previous developments and techniques
- use and motivation for new and old mechanism designs
- past kinematicians and designers
- history of mechanisms and their design
Therefore, papers on historical subjects are solicited and not only in the following topics:
- modern review of past works
- people history and their works
- direct memories of recent past
- historic development of theories
- history of the design of machines and mechanisms
- developments of mechanical design and automation
- historic developments of teaching
- history of schools of engineering
Looking at the past with an eye in the future.
