Brief Personal History:

Musician ..for 50 years, beginning with drums at age twelve. Guitar at age 14, then bass and piano. By twenty I had played in about six different bands in Houston, including Big Sweet and Saturnalia, two prominent Houston bands from the sixties. Currently play drums, guitar (acoustic and electric), bass (four or five string), keyboards, all types of percussion. From the late ‘80s till mid ‘90s, I created dozens of reels of musical/sound bites some call “new age” music, or “meditation music”, some of them tranquil and melodically simple, and some mostly noise, busy with natural and electronic sounds mixed to whatever video I was working with. Frequently sit in with bands, playing whatever instrument there is a need for.

Recording engineer .. In the summer of ‘75, I had my first experience with the recording side of things. I started using a sound-on-sound technique with a stereo reel to reel; taking the left channel with drums to a mono mixer and recording a live guitar part with the drum playback onto the right channel, then repeated the process, channel to channel, adding a different instrument, or singing, with each pass, and then mixing down to final stereo (one mono final with stereo reverb effect). In the summer of ’80, graduated to full blown four-track stereo reel to reel, mixing four channels to two, transferring them to two tracks of the four-track, and adding two more, etc. In ’87, I got my first eight-track reel to reel, and opened a brick and mortar recording studio called Major Keys on Westview in Houston TX in ’88, which was open until spring of ’91. Skipped the 24 track tape route in ’04, and went straight to a ProTools 5.1 TDM setup.
