Dear Friend of Soul Home

Greetings from a beautiful and sunny early autumn day in Johannesburg. Lovely to see the blue sky again after a rather dark and gloomy month of March!

We are just about to complete our Science of Mind Foundations class with five students: Claire, Geoff, MC, Mikateko and Joey. And, not to forget, Penny as very competent and supportive class assistance as well as the wonderful and vivacious hostess at her lovely home. I enjoyed this class very much and I am very grateful for the excellent participation of each and every one present in the class. Never a dull moment!!! And there is always so much more to learn from our students who are truly great teachers….. I find it such a blessing to see so much growth and expansion in consciousness.

The next course I intend to present is called “The Essential Ernest Holmes.” Please see further information about it in the section “Ongoing/Forthcoming Events” of this Newsletter. It would be appreciated if you could contact me a.s.a.p. if you are interested in this course as I would like to know how many books to order.

As for me and my ministerial study course, a new term has just begun. Please don’t think me greedy, but I intend to do four courses during this term! Most of the books I have ordered already, mainly via Kindle. What a blessing to have that option! I do appreciate this part of technology and some of the resulting gadgets. The courses I want to do during this term are “Gnosticism – The Path to Inner Knowledge,” “Ethics,” “Metaphysical Bible, Part I” and “Music in Ministry.” There is definitely little time for me to get bored.

I hope you find the inspiring articles in this newsletter of interest. Please feel free to make suggestions regarding topics of relevance for publishing in future editions.

Kindly note that there is a dress code we are requested to honor when attending our gatherings at the Randpark Club. Please do not wear shorts and/or flip-flops!

Join us in creating the spiritual community you would like to experience.

You are most welcome to bring a friend or interested persons to our Sunday Gatherings in order to introduce them to the Science of Mind teachings and to participate in our fellowship.

At the start of our Gathering, we have a meditation period, which lasts approximately 10 minutes. If you arrive while the meditation is in progress, kindly wait outside (in silence) until meditation has been completed. It would be appreciated if you could please respect this request.

Excerpt from “Creative Mind and Success”

It is a self-evident truth that if man is made in the spiritual image and likeness of God, man’s mind must be made out of God’s Mind; also that man has the same power in his individual life that God has in the Universal. If it is true that, as Jesus said, “it is the Father within, he doeth the works” – then man’s inner life is one with the Father.

Since all causation is mental, it follows that if all things are created by the Mind of God and man’s mind is part of God’s Mind, man is able, by thinking, to set in motion a Power that creates. Of course, man does not create that Power, neither does he coerce it. It is his to use either rightly or wrongly. It is always with him. It never deserts him. It operates every moment of his life.

We need, therefore, only to clear our mind of unbelief, and know that “it is done unto us as we believe.” In this spirit, we can think thoughts of success and success will follow as surely as day follows night, for our thought will not return unto us void. “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom.” We need only accept it.

Even when we fail, we are proving that the Law works – according to our belief that it will not work. Of course, we do not wish to fail, but if our mental attitude is one of doubt, then the result will be the out-picturing of our negative thoughts. We can change the effect only by changing the cause . . . by reversing out thoughts and believing that the good we desire is already ours.

Knowing this, we can no longer blame others for our troubles. We recognize that within ourselves is the Power to produce success or failure

Fear brings failure; Faith brings success. It’s just that simple.

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.

I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.

I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.

I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.

I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.

I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.

I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

SPIRITUAL ECONOMICS

Some ideas/quotations we discussed at our Sacred Gathering on March 9, 2014 - based on Eric Butterworth’s book “Spiritual Economics” as well as Brian Johnson’s Philosopher Notes:

• “The goal should not be to make money or acquire things, but to achieve the consciousness through which the substance will flow when and as you need it.”
• “Prosperity comes from the Latin root which literally translates: ‘according to hope’ or ‘to go forward hopefully.’ Thus it is not so much a condition in life as it is an attitude toward life. The truly prosperous person is what psychologist Rollo May calls ‘the fully functioning person’”

Course Overview:

Ernest Holmes (1887-1960) was an internationally renowned teacher of religious

psychology, a beloved scholar, mystic, and prolific author, who founded one of

America’s oldest continually-published magazines and the entire Religious Science

movement of Practitioners, Ministers, churches, and teaching centers. He believed in

a religion that was hopeful, practical, democratic, and all-encompassing, and built

around a practice of prayer in which one “prays the answer instead of the problem.”

The Essential Ernest Holmes is the first UCRS course to delve into all of Ernest’s

writings, feasting on his quiet, devotional writings as well as his impassioned, chalk

-in-hand teachings to future leaders. His love of people and facility for seeing past their

problems into the heart of their eternal being anticipates modern psychology, while relating

the human condition to a limitless ability to choose what to think and how to

feel. His ear for poetry and his profound mystical vision merge in the Farer’s quest toward

Visioning Team Meetings

Science of Mind Study Group in Cape Town

Our next meeting is planned for Saturday, 5April2014 from 13h00 to 16h00 in Milnerton (at Claire’s Home).The meeting in May is planned to take place on Saturday 31, May.

InJanuary2014we completed our studies of the book “The Art of Being Yourself – Discover Who You Are and Learn How to Live” by Frank E. Richelieu.

In our forthcoming meetingin April we will work through another “Philosopher’s Note”; the subject will still be determined. Please let me know via email or hether you would like to attend.

We have a Spiritual Libraryavailable to the Soul Home community on a membership basis. There are over 450 titles, which I have collected over time, while some books that have been donated to me.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this Library, please send me an email and I shall send you the list of titles, together with a Membership Application Form and the “Terms of Membership”. A list of book titles is available on our website ( )

SPIRITUAL MIND TREATMENT REQUESTS AND COUNSELLING

If anyone requires spiritual mind treatment (affirmative prayer) for a specific purpose, please submit your personal request/s via email or complete a written request to one of our practitioners. They will treat on your behalf for a week. (See contact details at the end of this newsletter). Specific prayer requests should not be submitted on behalf of someone else without their permission. (The Science of Mind philosophy is one of free choice and therefore no one is in a position to intercede for another person, unless they are unconscious or a young child. In the case of an adult who has not requested the prayer, the treatment will be for “wholeness” and “divine right action” only). You are kindly asked to make a love offering for this service.

Our spiritual practitioners are available for private spiritual counseling sessions. Please contact them directly to arrange an appointment. As they are licensed professional practitioners, they are entitled to charge a fee for their services.
