Bio for Cynthia K. Papierniak

Cynthia (nee Kanapicki) started studying piano at the age of eight. She played her first Piano Guild audition in Corpus Christi, TX, in 1959. She received her B.A. from Montclair State College, NJ, studying piano and French horn. She spent two years in the Navy and twenty-three years as a medical research technician earning a M.S. in Biology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL.

With the advent of her family, Ms. Papierniak returned to music and studied Suzuki piano pedagogy. She served on the Suzuki faculty of DePaul University, Chicago, IL for ten years. Currently she teaches in her private studio in Oak Park and at the Suzuki Music School of Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL. Ms. Papierniak shares the keyboard ministry at her church and studies with Dr. Michael Fritsch of Wheaton, IL.

Her first major work, “The Good Shepherd,” a setting of the 23rd Psalm for voice, horn and piano, was published in Vienna. In 2007 year she was a monthly finalist in the songoftheyear.com song writing competition, and in 2008 she earned a prize in the National Guild of Piano Teachers composition contest.

Ms Papierniak enjoys swimming, and hiking, especially in Austria and playing in her favorite trio with husband, Michael, who plays the French horn, and daughter, Anna, who is a violinist.
