Star Wars (When Star Wars starts, Justin and Hunter enter having a light saber battle. When the music stops, Olivia comes in.)

Olivia: Boys! How do you expect to earn a ticket? You must be respectful, responsible, and….

Justin & Hunter: Safe. (Olivia leaves)

Justin: Now look what you did, now we have no chance of saving the galaxy today.

Hunter: I’m the one who saves the galaxy. You’re the one who blows up planets.

Justin: Yea, but you made me be the bad guy.

Hunter: Yea, that’s because I’m always the bad guy.

(Shelby enters onstage from band. Brooke starts walking in front of K-2 kids. Justin and Hunter start leaving the stage)
{Justin: Well, I never get to win.}

{Hunter: Yes you do, remember the time when… }

{Justin: No, that was you!… (continue arguing as they leave the stage)}
Shelby: (onstage) Those guys are really starting to bug me.

Brooke: (on ground) She’s always mad about something.

There Was A Man And He Was Mad (in F) (Brooke shows flashcards to K-2. )

(After applause, Brooke exits. Justin and Hunter walk in tugging at light-saber. Shelby takes light saber from both. They shake hands in truce and exit (prepare dream powder backstage). Noah enters and watches Shelby from a chair onstage.)

Shelby: Hey sing a song!

(2nd grader): What do you want?

Shelby: Sing a song about me.

Au Claire De La Lune (in G) (singing with motions)

Shelby: I guess that was pretty good. This time, sing it in Japanese.

Au Claire De La Lune (hummed)

Shelby: No, that’s not what I wanted! Sing it louder!

Au Claire De La Lune (silent, motions only)

Shelby: Why won’t they listen to me?! (Shelby exits)
(Once Shelby is offstage, Noah starts thinking. Justin & Hunter throw powder to signal Noah’s thought. Olivia enters.)

Olivia: I wonder what they would do if you were nice to them. Always remember to be respectful! If there is one word I want you to remember this year, it is “kindness”. (Olivia exits)

Noah: I like how you’re singing about the moonlight. I like the stars, too. Can you sing a nice song about that? (Noah sits and listens)

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (in C)

(During applause, enter Grace, Justin and Hunter. Sit down in chairs)

Grace: (Looking up) I wonder how many stars are in the sky.

Justin: I wonder if pigs will ever fly.

Hunter: I wonder if jell-o is solid or liquid.

Noah: I wonder why you drive on a parkway and park in a driveway (etc.)

(Grace falls asleep. The rest continue chatting mindlessly as music comes on.)

-Music Break- (K-2 and band exits, taking Grace, Brooke and Shelby’s instruments. Grace, Hunter, Justin, and Noah stay on stage. “Lullaby”, “Morning” and “Good Day Sunshine” play in background on stereo)

(When 3-4 has entered and they’re ready, the music stops. Shelby walks in to find that Grace, Hunter, Justin, and Noah are now asleep in their chairs)

Shelby: (Looks at watch) It’s the middle of the day! (Shelby exits)

Beautiful Dreamer (in Bb)

(After applause, Brooke walks in to find that they are still asleep. Thinks.)

Brooke: Maybe they need something with a little more of a kick. (Brooke exits)

Goodnight Ladies (in E) (4th grade plays)

(Justin and Noah SLOWLY wake up from sounds of 4th grade band during “Merrily We Roll Along” (in G))

Goodnight Ladies (3rd grade plays and stomps)

(Justin and Noah wait to push and rock Hunter and Grace to wake them up until sounds of 3rd grade playing “Merrily We Roll Along”). After applause,

Noah: Oh no! We slept through ______.

Justin: Yea, and I still have a ton of homework to do!

Hunter: Aw, I don’t want to do homework
(Exit Justin, Noah and Hunter. Grace starts thinking. Shelby throws powder to signal Grace’s thought. Olivia enters.)

Olivia : But a good student must always remember to be responsible! (Olivia exits, Brooke enters.)

Brooke: Hey, let’s go set up for the party! Come on, Grace!

Grace: No… I really need to get this work done…

Brooke: Suit yourself! (Brooke exits)

Zum Gali Gali (in e/g) (Gracesits and painfully does homework)

(After applause, Grace looks around for someone who is still awake, finds nobody)
Grace: Great, now that I’m done with my work, I’m wide awake and everyone else is asleep! I guess I’ll have to find someplace else to go…. (Grace exits)

-Music Break- (3-4 exits. 5-7 enters, Mr. P switches guitar to band side. “Sleepwalk”, “Claire de Lune” and “Reverie” play.)

Up on the Roof (in D)

(After applause, Grace enters looking up)
Grace: Wow, there must be a million stars up there. But that one is so sparkly. I wonder….

Star Of Wonder (in c/Eb) (Grace jots down poetic ideas, and looks at sky on chorus. By 3rd verse, she has no more good ideas, looks confused at what to write)

(After applause, Grace exits. Shelby shows MEANWHILE sign. Noah, Hunter, Justin and Brooke enter with stars and supplies for their party. Shelby puts sign down.)

Noah: This is going to be AWESOME.

Hunter: Do you have the snacks? (_____ shows snacks) Check.

Justin: Do you have the decorations? ( _____ shows decorations) Check.

Brooke: Do you have the music? (Everyone shrugs) Let’s get on that. (Brooke points remote at 5-7 students)

Jingle Bell Rock (in Bb/Eb) (Dance, decorate, eat, be silly on stage) After applause,

Brooke: This party is awesome! I wish Grace was here.

Shelby: What’s the matter with your friend? Does she care too much about school to have some fun?

Brooke: Grace is smart. I probably should have done my homework, too.

Shelby: What’s the matter? Are you in love with your teachers? Geekburgers.

Hunter: We’ll show her. (Noah, Hunter, Justin and Brooke exit)

-Music Break- (5-7 exits. Chorus enters. Piano etudes play in the background. When Chorus is ready, all 8th graders except Olivia come back. Shelby is on one side of stage looking mad, others approach her.)

Noah: We’re tired of you being mean. Our friends have something we think you should hear.
(Olivia enters)

Olivia: Oh, you’re going to sing? I always loved singing as a little girl. I think I’ll join! (Olivia goes to Chorus)

Could You Be Loved (in D/b) (All 8th graders except Olivia sit. Stand up and shrug during “could you be loved” line, throw hands at “then be loved”. After applause,)

Shelby: Sorry guys, I guess I could be a little nicer…

Grace: Yea, all this stuff has kind of made me think maybe what Mrs. Bulson tells us to do is smart.

Shelby: Thanks Mrs. Bulson! (hugs Olivia)

Brooke: Yea, I’ve been thinking a lot, too. Even with all the bad stuff going on, life is pretty good. (All 8th graders except Olivia exit)

We Are One (in F)

(After applause, Olivia comes back on stage. Grace, Brooke, and Shelby enter)

Olivia: Ah, these are the things I want to be feeling this time of year! Faith, hope, love!

Brooke: Yea, let’s do something together for the holidays!

Shelby: I know, let’s make some music!

Grace: Yea, let’s go! (Olivia, Grace, Brooke, and Shelby excitedly exit out auditorium door)

-Music Break- (Chorus exits, band prepares in hallway. “Charleston” and “Polka” play on stereo)

When the Saints Go Marching In (Olivia leads the band to their chairs. After applause,)

Justin: OK we’ve all been sitting still for too long.

Hunter: Anybody who wants to come dance, come on up!
