Somerset Film Environmental Action Plan 2015/16

Environmental Action Plan

Somerset Film is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and implementing best practice for the benefit the environment. We are fortunate to have as our trustee and our champion in this Andrew Buchanan, who co-wrote the Codes of Best Practice in Sustainable Filmmaking with Larry Engel.

Initially Somerset Film became a 10:10 organisation, which aimed to reduce our carbon footprint by 10% in the year 2010. This involved switching energy providers to ensure our power comes from green sources, car sharing to production shoots, measuring consumption, communicating this with staff and implementing ‘switch off’ practices.

We will continue to implement actions for the benefit of our environment and to reduce our impact where possible. We will:

·  Continue to monitor and measure energy consumption and travel to calculate our carbon emissions, implementing actions to reduce consumption and offsetting where appropriate

·  Utilise the tools and information available through our National Portfolio Status and Julie’s Bicycle

·  Raise funds to update production kit to latest energy efficient models and to move away from tape to solid-state equipment

·  Develop 50/52 High Street as an exemplar low carbon building e.g. install energy efficient lighting

·  Raise funds for and invest in energy renewables e.g. solar array

·  Encourage commissioning partners to utilise digital distribution and reduce production of DVDs / Print

·  Source local suppliers offering energy saving solutions and/or good environmental credentials. With regards to our café we will use locally sourced, organic and Fair Trade food wherever appropriate and possible

·  Monitor and meet legal requirements relating to environmental

·  Develop a programme of creative/digital activities that encourage engagement, understanding and appreciation of our environment

·  Use public transport or encourage car sharing where possible and reduce business travel through video/phone conferencing where possible
