I am a firm believer in open communication, so please feel free to e-mail for an appointment to speak with me. The fastest way to get in touch with me is actually by e-mail. My address is . Please make sure to check out our classroom website for updates!I will ask that each parent fill out the survey on the “Welcome page” of my website. This will allow me to learn a bit about your child and to create an address book for our class and allow me to communicate with you in terms of e-mail.

Enclosed, you will find information on policies and procedures, which will be helpful to you and your child during the school year. Please read all of the enclosed information and return all necessary items by Wednesday, August 19, 2015. The fifth grade team has spent time this summer planning educational and exciting activities for the ensuing school year.

Thank you for your support and cooperation. Together we can make this year’s fifth grade a fulfilling and rewarding experience. I look forward to meeting with you at Back to School Night.

Sincerely,

StaceyReisman

Dear Parents,

I am very excited for the 2015-2016 school year. I hope the students are as enthusiastic and eager to begin our year as I am!

During the first week of class in ReismanRoad, your child will work to create a classroom community; which will be the premise of our policies throughout this year. We will design our homes within the community and develop community rules, which will ensure that our classroom runs smoothly.

I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement. I follow a whole class point system. We have a ReismanRoad fund wherein students can earn points toward a desired event. The “payoff” amount is 1,500 points. When the students’ behavior is exemplary in homeroom or any other classroom, I will add points to their fund. However, I also hold the authority to revoke points based on behavior. Students use these points to earn a class prize. I also give out “tickets” and “Reisman Road money” when a student is caught doing something positive. At the end of each week, we will hold a classroom raffle with the collected tickets. The “Reisman Road money” will be used to purchase prizes, as well.

It is understandable that everyone has an “off” day- even me! What is important is that these situations are turned into learning experiences. The discipline policy to be used inReisman Road is called Three Strikes and You’re Out! On the first strike, or infraction of the classroom rules, the student will be given a warning. On the second strike, the student will be removed from the situation. For example, he or she may be asked to sit at another table in the room for the rest of the class period. On the third strike, the student will be expected to write a letter home following a specific format. That letter must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the teacher the next school day. Should a child continue to be a disruption, I will first give a warning, next speak with the child, and finally as a last resort, the students will be sent to discuss his or her behavior with Mrs. Ahl.

Please review these rules and consequences with your child and any and all care givers. Please be sure that your child understands these rules and that they will ensure a successful year in a desirable classroom community. Both you and your child should sign the statements on the tear-off portion below and return it to class.

Thank you, in advance, for your support.

Sincerely,

StaceyReisman

Homework Policies

Homework will be sent home nightly and is assigned by each teacher on the team. Our policy is that the students will have no more than 20 minutes of homework in each subject area nightly. Occasionally, there may be an exception, but generally this will be the quota. In addition to your child’s daily assigned homework, he or she must be reading a minimum of 60 minutes per week. It is also a good idea to brush up on math facts nightly along with regular math homework.

Any written communication between parent and teacher should be sent in your child’s binder or be done via e-mail. Please ask your child for any information nightly. Your child will be responsible to turn in homework to the appropriate teacher on the due date. Please help us to be sure that your child understands that homework is his or her own responsibility, including completion and turning it in! Pink slips will be handed out, should a child not return the assignment when it is due. These slips are to be signed by the parent, student, and myself and returned the next day, along with the missing assignment. Should a student receive more than 3 pink slips in a trimester, they will receive consequences (missing field trips or “1500 class point” treats).

In addition to nightly homework, there will be specific projects; which will be assigned throughout the year. Please help your child learn time management in order to complete long-term projects in a timely manner. Please refer to the Homework Policy in our School Handbook for additional information.

Thank you in advance for your support in regards to the homework policies in this classroom.

Sincerely,

StaceyReisman

Dear Parents,

As you may know, Oak Park USD has adopted a “no junk food” policy. Please refer to the districts Wellness Policy. We will be held to this policy in the classroom.

Your child will be eating a variety of different foods this year. Please let me know if you do not want your child eating any specific food due to allergies, etc… Please be sure to make your child aware of any foods that may or may not be suitable for consumption. The more people who know what he or she may or may not eat—the better.

Sincerely,

StaceyReisman

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to take this opportunity to meet you and welcome your child to my class. This is my 8th year teaching and I am very excited to be at Brookside again! A few of my interests are hockey (LA KINGS!), my college (UW-Madison) and the Wisconsin Badgers, country music, sushi, and hanging out with family and friends. Most importantly, I love what I do! A good learning experience is built on cooperative effort between parent, child, and teacher. My expectations for conduct and standards for academic growth are high. With your participation in and out of the classroom, we can look forward to a productive, creative, and fun year together. This will be a huge year of growth for your child, especially in terms of responsibility!

If you are interested in volunteering for special projects, there will be a sign-up sheet at Back to School Night. Volunteers will be used on an “as needed” basis. I will use this list to reach out when volunteers are necessary.

I am excited about this new year. I hope that we can work together to make it one of growth, discovery, and significance for your child.

You can help by giving me any information that will help me understand your child better. I am interested in anything that could be affecting your child and his or her education, although it is not necessary for you to reveal any personal information. Anything you say will be kept in confidence.

I would also like to ask all parents to fill out the survey on my class website. I will be adding your email to a class distribution list. Most communication is done via e-mail, so please provide me with an address that you check regularly. In addition, if there is more than one parent per child who wishes to receive these updates, please be sure that I have both addresses.

Again, welcome! I look forward to an exciting year with you as we prepare your child for the next grade level.

Sincerely,

StaceyReisman
