A Sample Confirmation Email might include a Career Panelist Packet, Volunteer Commitments, and text similar to the sample text below. (You may also want to contact your volunteers & teachers the day prior to your event as a final reminder):

Thank you so much for volunteering to speak with students at Airport Heights Elementary as part of their Kids2College career panel. Attached you will find a list outlining your co-panelists and classroom details.

We will meet at 8:45am in the front office to sign in and review detail before heading to the classrooms together as a group.

This college & career panel is part of a 6-lesson curriculum geared toward 5th/6th grade students. Kids2College is designed to guide students to set academic and career goals, explore their interests, and begin taking steps in late elementary/middle school so they can do their best and qualify for scholarships and other forms of financial aid. The goal of this panel is for volunteers to share individual stories and college/career pathways, in part to help students become familiar with multiple career options, but also to help them realize that there are many different paths and careers we can have in our lifetimes, and that even in the face of personal struggles or academic challenges we can still pursue greatness by following our interests. It’s also a chance for students to hear about what life is like as a college student or apprentice. Many of our students may be the first in their family to attend college, so this is a great opportunity for students to ask questions and learn firsthand about our pathways and experiences, and college life in general.

Some additional college/career training questions to consider:

·  Did you live in dorms or off-campus? What was it like? What are dorms??

·  How long were you in college? What degree or certificates did you obtain?

·  What were your biggest challenges in college? In high school? How did you overcome those challenges or did they guide your pathway?

·  Did you receive financial aid? Did you work during college? Did you do work-study? What is work-study?

·  What are some of your best college memories? Did you join clubs or participate in different activities?

·  Are you working in your degree field? If not, what skills did you learn in college that you are still using?

Feel free to give me a call or email if you have any questions.

Thanks!
