Society, Culture and Politics across Time and Space

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu invites graduate and undergraduate students to submit proposals for the Social Sciences and Humanities Track of the International Student Conference Research and Education for a Knowledge-Based Society, to be held in Sibiu between 15 and 17 May 2014.

The main objective of this conference is to offer a platform for discussion and the exchange of ideas among students from different fields of social sciences and humanities worldwide. The conference encourages academic excellence, the exchange of ideas, and communication across both disciplinary and physical borders.

This year, the topic of the Social Sciences and Humanities Track is Society, Culture, and Politics across Time and Space. It focuses on changing patterns in social, cultural and political institutions; the analysis of individuals, groups, or societies; changes in mass culture, and technologies of communication and their social effects; and the impact of social and political change on both public and private life. These topics can be seen as contemporary or can be set in their historical perspective. Likewise, they can be approached in local, regional, or national contexts or in a comparative perspective. Proposals and invited on these and related topics.

We invite students to submit paper proposals covering one of the following fields:

  • Communication Sciences: Journalism, Communication and Public Relations
  • Conservation and Restoration
  • History and Archaeology
  • International Relations and European Studies
  • Political Science and Security Studies
  • Protestant Theology
  • Psychology
  • Sociology and Human Resources
  • Social Work

Paper proposals should be between 300 and 500 words. They should be written in English and should outline the aims of the paper, methodology and results. The language of the conference is English. There will be no translation available. Each participant will have 15 minutes to present the paper, which will be followed by questions and discussion.

The full papers will be published by the organizers in a conference e-book.

Deadline for the submission of proposals: March 31, 2014

Acceptance/refusal: April 7, 2014

There is no conference fee. Participants will pay for their own travel and accommodation. The conference organisers will arrange reduced fees for accommodation for all conference participants.
