MLB introduced new member Marius Leroux who is creating a miniature of the Hamptonne kitchen and welcomes suggestions for other miniatures. Priory at St Clement and abbey at St Helier mentioned.

2.Minutes of the meeting of Tuesday 19thApril 2016:

Anna Baghiani was added to ‘present’ and Stewart Hill will be referred to as STH in future to avoid confusion with SH

4.Chairman’s communications

Section walk & supper –Tuesday June 21st, St Clement/Le Hocq Inn 5.30 start parking at parish hall. Walk is SJ members only for insurance reasons.

Jean will email and hopefully Georgia will help on the night.

Review of permitted development supplement: MLB is going to meeting this Thursday, next is June3rd. Please send individual responses online.

Medieval history: MLB is talking to Richard Falle re. Joan Stevens

5. Members’ contributions

NLM Successful shop front visit. Useful to compare old fronts with what is there now. Next meeting: Monday 6th June 6pm at Snowhill.

MC Saw green post box in Dublin. Edward 7, Derby and London. Andrew handy side was Glaswegian who worked at the foundry. Wondered if Jersey boxes were similar.

STH Newell posts, at bottom of banister. Some have black dot, Ivory or coin. SW suggested Joan Stevens saying it changed colour according to mortgage status. NLM suggested builder inserted ebony button, replaced with mother of pearl when Paid in full, possibly when the joiner had been paid.

RM interested in Don Monument. Referred to in Gand S, where they mentioned it being in different places. RM suggested Geraint Jennings.

Also interesting discussion about casino being built c. 1866? NLMsaid there was a plan in the photo archive by adolphus curry for a casino on the site of the grand hotel, but hotel was built instead.

BM wants to remind people about the newspaper archive. Hoping jersey element will continue to grow. Also find my past. Must be used in the library.

NLM said book sale had been successful and items will be displayed in office.

FLB asked about French archaeologists, all staff used their best French. Many ideas for joint projects such as the textile industry in both Brittany and C.I. They invited us to their outings.

IE had tip off re. Planning application with JC. Planning application for building at first tower with the covering from the station from Snowhill in the garden. Fine metal work will be preserved. Tracey Ingles has been notified, hoping it will be put in public place.

Stones in church yard, former grave markers. Plan to reset them along the Bond Street wall. Friday hoping the archaeology section will clean them, already recorded text. Wanting information on the De Ste Croix family as this is the only family, 6 were recorded. Francis had provided list of burials. MLB suggested De St Croix family date from 12th C.

Stones had been under the south aisle, previously under the cannon shed, removed in 2012 to make way for central heating.

MLB mentioned that St John also had some. MB suggested they were temporary while they were replaced by a proper headstone.

Vatican archive refers to request to rebuild sea wall as sea was rising and washing bodies away.

MLB brought book of Guernsey maps : Guernsey on the Map

La Motte Street school was given for a specific purpose. Two pieces of land, One given by Jesse boot and one by James Hemery Janvrin.

JC mentioned the Clarke map collection now stored at the Archive.

Latest edition of History Today is on the Vikings.
