TOPIC: Goods and Services

GRADE LEVEL: 2nd Grade

STATE STANDARD: 2.E.1.1 Identify goods and services available in the students’ communities

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What are goods and services?

LESSON OBJECTIVE: Identify 5 goods and 5 services from your community.

TYPES OF ASSESSMENT USED: KWL & Ticket out the Door

RESOURCES NEEDED FOR LESSON: construction paper, pencils, computer, printer, envelope, chrome book, poster board, magazines, glue, and scissors.

ANTICIPATORY SET: (KWL and Literature Book or video)

I will have students fill in a KWL chart about what they know already about Goods and Services, and what they want to learn about Goods and Services.

Intro Video- After the video I would ask students to list 3 goods and 3 services from the video.

Goods: clothes, computer, car, fruits, vegetables, wood, paper, pencils, furniture

Services: dog walker, dentist, babysitter, bus driver, teacher, firefighter,

VOCABULARY ACTIVITY:

Vocab: apple, corn, clothes, mailman, firefighter, store clerk, goods, and service.

Students will be given flashcards with vocab words and pictures. Students will match the word to the picture and then categorize them on a T chart labeled good or service. Students will also be able to use the vocab flashcards to play a Memory game with a partner.

PROCEDURE OF MAIN LESSON: (Explain in detail how you would use these in your lesson.)

·  SmartBoard Activity

Goods and Services This smart board activity first stats what a good and service is and then students have to pick from a group of images which are goods and which are services.

·  Chromebook Activity

Goods and Services Game Students will drag the goods and services to the correct building. Ex: Doctor to the Doctors Office, money to the bank

·  Writing Activity

I would have students use colors paper to create a card, and write a thank you letter to their garbage man or mailman. We would identify that the garbage man and mail man provide a services in our community. Here is an example format to show students. Students will take their letter home and give it to their mailman or garbage man.

·  Introduce Project

Students will be given a poster to take home. They will divide the poster in half and label on side “Goods” and the other side “Services.” They give cut out pictures, 10 for each side of the poster, from magazines or search for them online and glue them under the correct category.

DESCRIPTION OF INDEPENDENT PRACTICE –

1.  Divide your poster in half labeling one side Goods and the other Services

2.  Look through magazines or find picture online of goods and services (5 pictures for each side)

3.  Glue the pictures under the correct category

CLOSURE OF THE LESSON

Exit ticket: Write down 5 goods and 5 services found in your community on a piece of paper and hand it in before recess.

LEARNER DIVERSITY:

ELL – Send home magazines, glue, and scissors for the Final Project if needed.

Gifted – Identify what goods we receive from other parts of the country.

Ex: oranges from California, fruits and veggies through the winter months
