Dance Officer Candidate Information

Dear Social Officer Candidate and Parent/Guardian:

Your daughter has expressed a desire to audition for a Pantherettes Social Officer position for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Before she can be considered, I must have a signed permission form as well as the assurance that she will receive support, cooperation, and help from you in meeting her responsibilities and obligations if selected to serve as a social officer.

To become a social officer for the Pantherettes would be a huge honor, but it would also be a great deal of sacrifice. Holding a position on the officer line is a full time job. Social officers must have strong qualities of leadership, dependability, integrity, and cooperation. If chosen to serve as social officer, you must follow the theory that social officers are to set the example for the rest of the team and are not the exception to the rules. The team is held to a high standard, social officers are held to an even higher standard. I tell you this not to scare you, but to make you aware of what would be expected should you be chosen to serve as a social officer.

Social Officer Interviews are scheduled for March 21, 2016; starting at 3:45 pm. Interviews are closed to the public. An impartial panel of judges who have knowledge and several years of experience in leadership, time-management, and interviewing shall select the social officers. The number of officers selected will depend on the size of the team. Results of the officer auditions will be announced at our annual spring ceremony. Candidates will be given an envelope containing the results to be opened during the ceremony. Candidates will be judged on the following:

  1. Teacher Evaluations (By all 8 teachers)
  2. Notebook – completion, neatness, organization, and every aspect required in the notebook.
  3. Presentation board – creativity, matched the chosen theme, difficulty, appearance, and overall look/impression.
  4. Interview with judges - sincerity, quickness in response, poise, attitude, personality, and overall impression.

It is impossible for the girls to achieve success without your help and support. These girls have worked very hard and are extremely proud of them-selves. I wish all candidates the best of luck! 

Sincerely,

S. Reyna-Urbina, Pantherettes Director

The following points should be considered prior to making the decision to audition for an officer position

1. Any activities outside the Pantherettes Dance Team you may be involved in cannot conflict with the schedule of the team or social officer line. This includes, but is not limited to, rehearsal schedule (this includes leaving early), contests, or any event/function the Pantherettes may be required to attend, or has planned to attend. You need to be willing to schedule around team and contests, etc. All rehearsals will be planned well in advance and contest dates will be given in late fall.

2. Officers may be required to meet after regular dance practice. Social officers spend a considerable amount of time taking care of Pantherettes business, like planning and organizing. Extra meeting times are also held during the summer, during contest season, and on Saturdays to prepare and for the following:

a. Football halftime routines for the team

b. Pep rally routines

c. Contest routines

d. Fall/spring dance clinics

e. Spring Show

f. Fundraisers

3. Being a social officer also means added cost to that of a line member. The social officers will attend officer campin Houston, during the 3rd week in June, in addition to summer rehearsal prior to line camp ($80.00) and football dance camp. Dance officers will be responsible for paying for officer camp ($425.00). Social officer camp must be paid in full by the cut-off date.

Pantherettes Dance/Drill Team

Dance Officer Candidate Permission Form/Contract

I have read the above statements and am aware of the extra time and expense involved if my daughter is chosen to serve as a Pantherettes Social Officer for the 2016 – 2017 school year. I also understand the social officers are held to a higher standard than that of a line member. She will be expected to discipline, give orders, and set a good example for the other drill team members both inside and outside of Jefferson Davis High School and Pantherettes.

I understand the social officers attend social officer camp during the summer in Houston during the 3rd week in June, will have line camp late July/early August, attend summer practice, and will have additional meetings and rehearsals either after school or weekends in addition to scheduled practice time. Anytime the team is scheduled to meet for any function, the social officers must arrive at least 15 minutes early. Work or any organization she may be involved in outside of Pantherettes cannot interfere with an social officer’s obligations during the summer or school year.

I am aware of the Pantherettes constitution and the Demerit/Merit System. I understand that officers are not the exception to the rules and that my daughter may lose her spot on the officer line and will be demoted to a line member for misconduct, misrepresentation, poor attitude, not fulfilling her duties or responsibilities as an officer, or is placed on probation of any kind. I understand that by signing this form, I am making a commitment in that I understand what is expected of my daughter and that I will support her in fulfilling it.

I understand that if chosen to represent the Pantherettes Dance Team by serving as a social officer I will have extra obligations and responsibilities. I understand I will be expected to set an example for the other Pantherettes members at all times, help enforce the discipline of Pantherettes, and give orders. I must truly believe in everything that drill team stands for and everything the constitution of our team stands for.

I also understand that if selected to serve as a social officer, that at anytime I misrepresent the Pantherettes, demonstrate misconduct, poor attitude, do not fulfill my duties or obligations as an officer, or am placed on probation of any kind that I may lose my spot on the officer line and will be demoted to a line member.

I understand the duties and extra time obligation involved by being asocial officer which include, but is not limited to: attending officer camp, meeting prior to line camp to choreograph and prepare, attending line camps, or meeting after line rehearsals. I understand that by signing this form, I am making a commitment in that I understand what would be expected of me if selected to serve as a dance officer. I agree to participate with good sportsmanship and will receive any position handed to me graciously.
