Role Title: Social Media Intern (East London Vision)

Are you interested in a career in social media & digital marketing?

This is an opportunity for an individual who is enthusiastic about and wants to gain valuable experience in the social and digital media field, as well as someone who has a keen interest in the charity sector.

East London Vision is part of the Pocklington Family, and is a charity that aims to improve access to support and services for people with sight loss living in the seven boroughs of East London. We are an umbrella organisation with voluntary sector, user led representation in each of these boroughs and provide a variety of services for our members, from giving advice on accessible technology to organising activities and events. We also promote awareness of sight loss and surrounding issues through initiatives such as delivering vision impairment awareness training and attending various different information events.

Reporting to:ELVisService Development and Delivery Manager

Main duties:

  • To drive the expansion of our pre-existing social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
  • To initiate new forms of social media communication, such as using Instagram
  • To contribute to and create internal and external communications via regular newsletters
  • To update and oversee our website and blog pages
  • Assist to develop a social strategy
  • Monitoring, reporting and analysis of engagement with our social media channels
  • Drive engagement across audiences/platforms

You will be based at the East London Vision offices: Waltham Forest Resource Hub (South), 90 Crownfield Road, London, E15 2BG

Entry Requirements

  • 16 and over
  • Right to work in UK
  • GCSE or equivalent

What are the skills required for an internship?

  • An interest in the issues which affect people with sight loss
  • Highly skilled at using social media, including identifying trends, promoting key messages and ideas, and ability to engage with a diverse audience
  • Good editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to manage relationships with a digital audience, including responding to queries and maintaining a positive public profile
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a thorough knowledge of English grammar and ability to write for a variety of audiences
  • Highly organised and ability to use own initiative to juggle different priorities and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and committed.

What are the working hours?

  • 18 hours per week
  • 9am – 5pm (can be flexible and negotiable)
  • 45 minute lunch break

How long is the internship?

Typically between 3-6 months.

Will I be paid?

We pay interns £9.40 in line with the national living wage.
