SNAP Relocates Web Site and Concludes Affiliation with NAA

July 10, 2008: Ashburn, VA: The Specifications for Newsprint Advertising Production (SNAP) Committee announced that it will no longer use the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) web page or staff to support its document distribution or SNAP Certificate efforts.

“We owe thanks to NAA and staff members Tom Croteau and Michael Brady for their support of our efforts over the past years,” stated SNAP Chair Peter Brehm of Vertis Communications. “We look forward to operating in coordination with, though independently of, NAA as we pursue efforts to create, distribute, and help the industry apply SNAP coldset specifications.” He added, “On a path forward we want to work in a collaborative manner with NAA through participation in the NEXPO program, sharing SNAP Certificate information, and in other mutually beneficial ways.”

Effectively immediately:

·  Coldset industry stakeholders can access SNAP information by going to the organization’s new web site: www.snapquality.com.

·  The new SNAP mailing address is:

SNAP / Media Technology Partners

44050 Ashburn Plaza / Suite 195-664

Ashburn, VA 20147

·  An email address is being established and will be posted on the web site along with other contact information. In the meantime, all emails sent to Michael Brady’s NAA email address with “SNAP” in the subject line will be forwarded to a new snapquality.com email address

·  SNAP Certificate applicants should now make payments for the SNAP Certificate program payable to Media Technology Partners and not to NAA. SNAP Certificate application materials are being changed to reflect this upgrade.

“It is important to understand that SNAP will continue its efforts,” emphasized Vice Chairman Dennis Cheeseman of US Ink / Sun Chemical. He noted that all members of the coldset community, including newspapers and coldset commercial printers, are invited to attend the next SNAP meeting planned for September just prior to the International Newspaper Group (ING) conference in Tampa, Florida.

SNAP is the specification that coldset commercial printers and newspapers use to assure reproduction quality. Thousands of copies of SNAP have been distributed, including a Spanish version. A current version of this specification is posted on the snapquality.com site and can be downloaded without charge.

The SNAP Committee includes representatives from coldset commercial printers, newspapers, and suppliers to this industry segment. The group’s mission is to research, compile, publish, and explain technical and process information that will advance coldset printing quality, consistency, and efficiency.
