Shortlisted for the 'Best SME to work for', representatives from Physical Digital attended a prestigious event at Grosvenor House celebrating the best of UK SMEs.

Physical Digital's 3D scanning experts attended the SME Awards 2016 on 23rd June in London at Park Lane's prestigious Grosvenor House.

After the inaugural SME Awards 2016, Tim Rapley, Physical Digital’s MD, explained how much he enjoyed the event, saying: “It was a great opportunity to network with over 300 SMEs, all at the top of their game, and to celebrate the best of British business on an important night for the UK.”

Physical Digital’s 3D scanning team was delighted to meet other SME owners and enjoy great entertainment on the night courtesy of a live band, photobooths and casino. On the night, the award went to another company but Tim was upbeat, saying: "It was an honour to be shortlisted and we valued the opportunity to meet other SMEs at the peak of their success to share tips and initiatives".

The SME Awards was established to recognise excellence in the UK’s small business sector from social media and sales growth to customer experience and export. Their aim is to celebrate every aspect of what makes UK SMEs successful, highlighting innovative and imaginative working practices and business models.

Physical Digital was delighted to be shortlisted in the category of the ‘Best SME to work for’, citing many reasons why our firm is the UK’s best small employer.

3D scanning projects – varied, interesting, of national importance

As the UK’s longest-established and largest GOM 3D scanning service provider, Physical Digital has years of experience to draw on and has undertaken some fantastic projects to make other engineers’ mouths water in envy. The leading metrology company has taken on the responsibility of scanning works of national importance such as Sir Humphry Davy’s 200-year-old prototype safety lamp and the digitising of the last remaining airworthy Battle of Britain Spitfire Mark IIa.

For ambitious and enthusiastic engineers, this is the 3D scanning company which offers a fabulous range of interesting work – and that’s only mentioning the projects that aren’t covered by our strict non-disclosure agreements!

Supportive team working

Physical Digital has a strong team ethos which helps support staff in their learning, development and completion of projects. Our team members work positively together both within and outside work, which means that we have a low turnover of staff and all enjoy coming to work. We have social events and competitions, complete challenges and even, occasionally, have a drink together after work!

3D scanning training and development

Physical Digital also detailed the 3D scanning training programme we offer metrology engineers, which includes nationally-recognised training such as the National Physical Laboratory metrology qualifications scheme. The SME also supported an engineer in gaining a Metrology Foundation Degree. As well as the metrology-specific training courses, we are also sponsoring two team members working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, which includes arranging a mentor and ensuring a range of suitable projects.

To be shortlisted for this award has been a huge accolade and Physical Digital continues to be a great company to work for. We are currently looking for a Business Development professional to join the team so if you are interested in joining our award-winning SME, contact us on or call 01483 750200.
