A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the "Fire Chief Louis Crosier Highway" in Hardin County.
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was born on March 10, 1945, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on December 21, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was survived by his mother, Lela Frances Crosier; his wife, Sharon Hay Crosier; a daughter, Dana (Troy) Basham; his sisters, Janet (Timmy) Portman, Linda (David) Vertrees, and Debbie (Paul) Portman; his grandchildren, Haley Brook Basham and Hunter Louis Basham; his mother-in-law, Sudie Hay; his aunt, Della Gore; and a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous others who loved him dearly; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier graduated from West Hardin High School in June, 1964, and was a lifelong resident of Hardin County; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier worked as a tractor mechanic at Cecilia Tractor Service for 40 years and was known far and wide as the "tractor doctor"; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was a Kentucky Colonel and a founding member of Kentucky 86 Fire and Rescue Department; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was the fire chief at Kentucky 86 Fire and Rescue Department for nearly 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier amassed nearly 3,000 hours of fire service training; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier turned an ill-equipped, untrained but well-intentioned group of community-minded citizens into an effective and efficient volunteer fire department dedicated to caring for citizens in its area of responsibility; and
WHEREAS; Fire Chief Louis Crosier was known throughout Kentucky as a State Fire Instructor for many years and earned the reputation of being a "firefighter's firefighter," and there was nothing that Chief Crosier would ask a fellow fighter to do that he could not or would not do himself; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier trained his firefighters at every opportunity with the ultimate goal of bringing every one of them home safely after every run; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was incredibly dedicated to the fire service in Kentucky, and selfless service was the legacy that Fire Chief Crosier left with everybody with whom he came into contact; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier was a recognized expert throughout Kentucky in the field of farm safety; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier created a highly acclaimed course of instruction to include a hands-on phase on extrication from farm implements and machinery; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Louis Crosier's passing has left a void in the lives of all that knew him; and
WHEREAS, although the world is a sadder place without him, it is clearly a better place for his having been here;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate Kentucky Route 86, from mile point 12 west to the Hardin County line, as the "Fire Chief Louis Crosier Highway," and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation.
