SMARTGoals for Improving Student Learning

2016-2017

Teacher(s) orGrade Level Team: District Grade 5 / Trimester:1 / Content Area:Mathematics
Claim and Assessment Target:
Claim 1: Concepts and Procedures: Students can explain and apply mathematical concepts and interpret and carry out
mathematical procedures with precision and fluency.
Assessment Targets: Primary Clusters: Perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers and decimals to hundredths.
Understand the place value system.
California Core State Standard(s):
Grade 5: 5.NBT.1-7 (Number and Operations in Base 10)
SMART Goal:
Baseline Data:44% of grade 5 students demonstrated mathematic performance levels of 3 or 4, college and career readiness, on the 2016 SBAC administration.
Annual Goal: A minimum of 5% of grade 5 students will improve their performance level by at least 1 performance level as measured on the overall SBAC ELA 2016 baseline and comparing SBAC 2017 scores. All students who performed in the highest performance level, level 4, during the 2016 SBAC administration will maintain a performance level4 in the 2017 SBAC administration.
Trimester 1 Goal: A minimum of ___ % of grade 5 students will demonstrate performance levels 3 or 4, college and career readiness, on local and interim assessments evaluating mathematics.
Instructional Strategies:
Connecting Mathematical Practices and Content, see Grade Five Chapter of the Mathematics Framework, pages 4-5
Mathematical Academic Vocabulary, as indicated within Units 1 and 2
Use of Manipulatives (e.g. base-ten blocks or snap cubes for exploring relationship between place values), Mathematics Framework page 10
Strategies Specific to Grade 5 Number and Operations in Base 10, Mathematics Framework pages 9 – 18
Materials/Resources Needed:
  1. Grade 5 Mathematics Framework (Schoolnet and CDE website)
  2. Grade 5Mathematics Standards (CDE website)
  3. Fifth Grade Math Scope and Sequence (Schoolnet)
  4. Grade 5 Mathematics Guide: Units 1 and 2 (Schoolnet)
  5. Grade 5 Learning Progressions (Schoolnet)
  6. SBAC Claims and Assessment Targets (Schoolnet)
  7. Harcourt textbook
  8. Dreambox, content related to NBT standards

Evidence of Learning:
  1. Post-Assessment Performance Task, Units 1 and 2
  2. Dreambox Data on NBT Standards and Performance (lessons specific to NBT and completed with “proficiency” by each student)
  3. Interim Assessment Block (IAB) Trimester 1, Percentage of Students Achieving Levels 2, 3 (IAB uses overall performance levels 1, 2, 3)
  4. Classroom Assessments (e.g. quizzes, constructed response to a complex problem)

Reflection on Learnings and Next Steps:
To be completed during and at the end of the trimester
