Smart solutions for industry and production along your entire value creation chain

SWIP – Lorch's Philosophy

Under the moniker SWIP – Smart Welding for Industry and Production – Lorch will soon offer customers a comprehensive range of services along the entire value creation chain that afford them the professional advice and support they need for all of their welding tasks. Apart from first-rate welding machines that have received multiple awards, Lorch offers customers know-how that stretches from planning, process implementation, and production to quality assurance and gives their productivity another major boost.

For more than 60 years, Lorch has been engineering and manufacturing premium-quality welding equipment for industrial professionals and craftsmen – from manual to automated to ready-to-robot solutions. The company also keeps adding new digital welding process controls which continuously improve control over the arc and steadily increase energy efficiency. Every completion of a welding process brings about additional knowledge, which Lorch has managed to channel into a vast pool of valuable solutions that are suitable to handle any welding challenge a customer may encounter in the real world. Tapping into this pool, Lorch has now devised a comprehensive concept that covers all relevant disciplines: SWIP –Smart Welding for Industry and Production.

In the future, Lorch customers will be able to bank on Lorch's know-how at all stages of their project: from planning to installation to quality assurance to training. SWIP allows customers to analyse all processes relevant to the welding tasks at hand throughout the entire value creation chain and to join forces with us to develop custom welding solutions that reduce cost and increase productivity and that can be integrated seamlessly into the entire development and manufacturing process.

The services subsumed under SWIP are grouped into five categories: Smart Concept, Smart Application, Smart Production, Smart Quality and Smart Training. If requested, our experienced Lorch application technology, automation and engineering experts will offer their help on site - from the initial idea to the final concept. They will also determine if the implementation of the customer's planned welding projects is actually feasible. Our experts can draw from the experience of countless large-scale projects and assist customers, among other things, in optimising their existing welding processes, integrating automation concepts, adapting their equipment pool, developing service and wear part concepts. Finally, they share their experience and expertise in materials with the companies.

The support our experts render to the companies in the context of their projects and challenges also involves such practical assistance as the testing of constructions based on welding aspects, the development of parameters, the optimisation of processes, the analysis of welding results and the creation of grinding cuts. Finally, our experts also offer their help in the areas of calibration and training under real-world conditions. Another area where customers can benefit from Lorch's competent advice is certification, a topic which is rapidly increasing in importance.

"This new concept", explains Wolfgang Grüb, managing partner at Lorch Schweißtechnik GmbH, "is our approach to not only constantly refine our machines and welding processes but to also open up new possibilities for our customers that allow them to improve their competitive position in the marketplace." Recent studies have shown that a mere four per cent of the overall cost involved with a welding process can be attributed to the welding machine. A far larger portion of the cost is taken up by wages, energy costs, welding material or gas.

At "Schweisstec 2015", Lorch will be presenting their new concept and the comprehensive range of services it comprises to a larger audience for the first time. Wolfgang Grüb: "SWIP represents yet another manifestation of Lorch's unwavering dedication to developing smart welding solutions that pay off for all parties involved – the welder, the controlling department and management."

Customers can partake in the entire range of SWIP services by contacting Lorch directly or by turning to a Lorch Welding Technology Centre near them.
