Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost

Prayer Before Worship: God of our fathers and mothers, holy is your name. We gather in your presence with praise and thanksgiving for the faithful love you have shown toward your people, for the many blessings you have given to us. Reveal yourself to us.

Open our eyes to see you here among us; open our ears to hear your Word. For surely, you are with us in this place. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

(In preparation for our worship together, you are invited to take a moment of silence to offer your own prayers of worship and praise.)

A Warm Welcome to all as we gather as God’s people to worship our Lord. We pray our worship together would strengthen your faith and desire to know and serve the One who loves us with an everlasting love as made known to us in Jesus Christ.

Visitors, we are especially glad to have you worshiping with us. Please come again!!

Worship/Prayer Request Cards: Everyone is invited to fill out a Worship/Prayer Request card as you enter so that we know you are here, will be communing today or if you have a prayer request you would like us to include during worship today. Once you have filled out the card, please pass them to the inside aisle for the ushers to pick up. Thanks!

Welcome and Announcements

☩WE PREPARE OUR HEARTS☩

Call To Worship

Surely the Lord is in this place!

How awesome is the presence of the Lord!

This is none other than the house of God

Open our eyes and ears and hearts that we might know God’s presence.

Come, let us worship the Lord!

*Confession of Sins/Assurance of Forgiveness

(All may make the sign of the ☩ cross, the sign marked at baptism, as we begin)

We gather as the baptized people of God in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

God of all mercy and consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that, attentive to your Word, we may confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

(silence for reflection and self-examination)

Loving Creator,

You have formed us, given us breath, and supplied our every need. And yet we are slow to recognize these blessings, quick to doubt and criticize, and eager to blame others for our own shortcomings. Forgive us when we fail to reflect the unconditional love of the One who made us. Have mercy on us and claim us once again as your own. Amen.

The Lord hears our every cry and grants forgiveness when we repent. In the name of

☩ Jesus Christ, receive the promise that cannot be taken away: you are a child of God, loved, pardoned, and blessed forever. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

God of Jacob,

You revealed yourself in a dream and showed Jacob that you were not only the God of Abraham and Isaac, but also his God. Reveal yourself to us that we too might know you as our God and make us worthy to be the bearers of your life-giving word to the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

☩GOD’S WORD SPEAKS TO US☩

First Reading: Genesis 27:1-4, 15-23 Pew Bible p.23

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Psalm 3 Read responsively

1O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;
2many are saying to me,"There is no help for you in God."

3But you, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4I cry aloud to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy hill.
5I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains me.
6I am not afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me

all around.
7Rise up, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8Deliverance belongs to the LORD; may your blessing be on your people!

*Profession of Faith: Apostle’s Creed Page 105

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.
