SITE VISIT FOR SACSAS SCHOOL

10th Dec.2005

Dear,

Jagdishji, Shantikumar and all Asha volunteer,

I left Tamulpur For Manipur on 8th of Dec.2005. Stayed in Guwahati on 8th night, Reached Imphal by Jet Flight on 9th Dec. at 3.30 pm. Stayed in Imphal 9th night and left for Moirang at 8.30 a.m. of Dec 10th. Reached Moirang at 11.30 am.

Met following persons-

1.  Shri Surjit Kumar and

2.  Suranjay Singh

3.  Y. Nando

4.  H. Deven

I visited following schools one by one, could not go to the 4th one. I did talk to them also.

1.  SACSAS ACADEMY (Save children save society), Vill- Yaoshulakpa.

2.  Maovam

3.  Bekhomnam

Examinations were over. So there were no regular classes. However special classes called Tuition were being conducted in 1st two schools. The weak students were being coached for their next year. In the 1st school members and president of Merapaibi and village Education Development committee came to meet.

They were obliged that the education of the children of their remote and backward area is per month taken care of.

I met the teachers of these 2 schools (1st & 2nd). They came from a distance of 10 to 15 k.m. Their salary is 800 rupees to 1000 rupees only. They say it is quite insufficient for even a poorest living.

The teachers of 3rd school are on honorary service. In the beginning it was managed by local contribution. The people are so poor that local donation is not possible.

The 4th school is in village Loilamkot. There are 2 teachers. This school was managed and funded by insurgents. They constructed school building. Books Teachers salary and medicines were also funded by terrorist group. On coming of security forces the terrorists left and the village school lost support.

SACSAS academy is running these 4 schools out of what they are getting for the 1st and 2nd schools.

At present the 3rd and 4th schools are getting some books but no salary. The communication to this area is very bad. It becomes muddy during rains,

The area is remote, & poor. They deserve all help. The Govt. is not extending due help. Under the conditions the budget allocation for SACSAS deserved reconsideration.

I personally appreciate their dedication and commitment.
