Job Description

Job Title: Litter Picker and Caretaking Support

Responsible to:Site Manager

Grade:Scale 2

Hours: Term time only – 10 hours a week for 38 weeks a year

Litter Picker

The Litter Picker is responsible for:

  • Assisting the Site Team in ensuring that Trust site and grounds are maintained in a safe, clean and orderly condition as required
  • Ensuring the Trust site and grounds are free from all litter
  • Ensuring the Trust bins are emptied regularly
  • Ensuring the Trust buildings and grounds are free from all litter
  • Establishing and maintaining good relationships with all students, parents/carers, colleagues, visitors, contractors and other professionals
  • Ensuring that protective clothing is worn where necessary and that all equipment is in sound working order
  • Ensuring that hazardous / infectious solutions and materials e.g. broken glass are disposed of in accordance with agreed safe working practices, removing waste to designated areas
  • Reporting as required any incidents of unacceptable behaviour or issues of concern to the appropriate member of staff
  • Collecting up personal possessions left by teachers or students and handing these to Line Manager for safekeeping

Caretaking support

The Caretaking duties are:

  • Assisting the Site Team in ensuring that Trust site and grounds are maintained in a safe, clean and orderly condition as required.
  • Cleaning internal area if directed.

Training

  • Undertake training/attend courses as appropriate to carry out duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Health and Safety

  • In consultation with the Site Manager, ensure duties are undertaken in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and to wear protective clothing as required.

General

  • To participate in school emergencies as required e.g. assisting in the evacuation of the school
  • To retain confidentiality about all aspects of school life
  • Installing items to enhance the appearance of the college, e.g. pictures, noticeboards.
  • Clear pathways to give access to the site, taking account of the minimum number of entrances to be used and students who arrive by transport to be delivered to one entrance.
  • Arrange for the disposal of items of redundant furniture and equipment as directed.
  • Be responsible for the restocking of towels, soap, toilet paper in WCs, in washrooms, classrooms with sinks, offices etc.
  • Be a positive team member with a flexible and innovative approach to all aspects of his/her duties.
  • Respond to all reasonable requests for assistance from staff, site users, visitors and contractors in a courteous manner to provide a positive image of the Trust.

Main duties and responsibilities as indicated. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature may also be required, as directed by the CEO.

Conditions of Employment

The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities contained in the written statement of conditions of employment (the Contract of Employment).

The post holder is required to support and encourage the school’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the governing body.

S/he shall be subject to all relevant statutory and institutional requirements.

The post holder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation.

All staff participate in the school’s performance management scheme.
