SITE SAFE SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARD 2017 ENTRY FORM
The Site Safe ‘Safety Excellence’ Award celebrates a new product or process that promotes construction safety, whether that be through the design stage of the project (safety-in-design) or an on-site innovation or procedure that will ultimately make construction sites safer.
ABOUT THE NZIOB AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
Thank you for entering the 2017 NZIOB Awards for Excellence, the New Zealand building industry awards that acknowledge and celebrate the people behind the projects.The NZIOB Awards for Excellence are unique in that they are the only New Zealand building industry national awards that recognise the individual. The awards celebrate an individuals’ professional excellence in the building and construction process, as opposed to recognising the completed project or structure.
The Awards are presented at an annual NZIOB Awards dinner, which is being held on Friday 25 August 2017 at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland, this is also a great place to network with the best in the industry in a social environment.The Awards are open to anyone in the New Zealand Construction or related industry, with entries judged by a panel of industry peers.
ENTRANT AND PROJECT ELIGIBILITY
- NZIOB members and non-members can make nominations and entries.
- Site Safe members and non-members can make nominations and entries.
- Product designed, or Projects whose construction has been completed within New Zealand; during the
18 month period preceding the closing of entries on the 9th of May 2017. The projects must have reached practical completion and be in all other respects complete to the point of enabling a proper assessment by the Judging Panel. - This Award is open to anyone in the built environment within New Zealand who is in a position to influence best practice Health & Safety (H&S) initiatives, innovations and behaviors. Entries are sought from the full spectrum of construction and property professionals, from the property owner, to design practitioners (i.e. safety in design), to contractors.
JUDGING
A panel of three industry peers will judge your entry.
There are two stage of judging:
- Preliminary judging: Assessment by Judging Panel, which may include phone calls to nominees/nominators/referees etc.
- Finalists are then selected.
- Finals judging: A face-to-face interview for all finalists.
WHAT ARE THE JUDGES LOOKING FOR? (consider these points in your answers)
- The extent of commitment in development and implementation.
- The effectiveness of the impact or outcome of your achievementon the either the design (and its impact on construction, or on this site/project.
- Compliance with all relevant statutory requirements.
- Evidence of achievement. Where possible, external verification of theachievement should be provided in your references.

The New Zealand Institute of Building reserves the right to disqualify an entry, without a refund of the entry fee, at any time during the process if the Convener of Judging determines that:
- The entry or entrant breaches or otherwise fails to meet/observe any of the above stated eligibility or contest requirements.
- False or misleading information has been intentionally provided.

- The nominator/nominee agrees that any media comment in any communications media and photographic display of any of the entries will be at the discretion of The New Zealand Institute of Building and their associated media.

Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
- Degree of project difficulty;
- Management methods and techniques;
- Processes developed to overcome difficulties;
- Workforce organisation and training;
- Relationship with the client, consultants, authorities, community and work force (employees, suppliers, subcontractors, etc).
