VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Early Learning Readiness Volunteer

Program/Department: Come With Me Early Learning Readiness Program

Reports To: Early Learning Readiness Supervisor Cherida Even

Purpose: To model positive behavior and promote early learning by actively playing and engaging with 0-5 year olds and encouraging their Family, Friend and Neighbor caregivers to do the same.

Responsibilities:

·  Serve as positive role model for caregivers exhibiting positive reinforcement towards the children in their care.

·  Actively encourage and engage in play with caregivers and their children, modeling the behavior first then asking the caregiver to try

·  Provide support for caregivers by answering any questions or concerns they may have regarding the learning activities at each center

·  Assist in the observation and collection of information as part of the program evaluation.

·  Help with set up and clean up of the learning centers at the program site.

·  Assist with registration, attendance records and follow up phone calls to families to assure their participation in the program.

·  Prepare snacks for the program following the Y - H.E.P.A (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards and taking the necessary precautions to ensure safe food preparation

·  Cleaning toys and equipment as needed in preparation for next sessions.

·  Help with any office work needed such as but not limited to typing documents, photo copying, event planning, etc.

Qualifications:

·  People who love children and want to work with low-income and newcomer communities

·  Sensitivity to cultural differences and varying levels of education and understanding about child development

·  Experience with and knowledge of early learning, stages of development, adult learning, parent support or working with families Candidates must be enthusiastic and posses a positive attitude

·  Must pass a successful criminal background record check

Training:

·  Interview/orientation with YMCA management

·  Orientation to the Early Learning Readiness Program

·  Working With Children Up To Age 5 and their caregivers

Evaluation: Volunteer will meet with Early Learning Readiness supervisor every 3 months.
