Course description / The Workshop aims at familiarizing participants with the TRIPS Agreement as it relates to the areas of copyright and enforcement. Presentations, discussions and practical exercises will address TRIPS standards and flexibilities in this areas. A key aim is to support participants in formulating and implementing intellectual property policies in accordance with the TRIPS standards and develop appropriate responses public policy options.
Objectives / By the end of the course the participants will have:
-an improved understanding of the TRIPS Agreement as it relates to the areas of copyrightand enforcement;
-the capability to assess the implications of and effectively use the flexibilities in the TRIPS Agreement with respect to these areas;
- be aware of current international developments and challenges in the area of copyright.

TARGET AUDIENCE - ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES
The target audience for the Workshop are government officials from:
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Tonga, Vanuatu and Vietnam (funded by the Government of Singapore)
Hong KongChina, Macao China, Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei (funded by the WTO)
The officials are required to come from either the Trade or IP Department/Ministry.
NOMINATION OF PARTICIPANTS
As part of the WTO procedures, a letter of invitation will be addressed to the four countries in question by the WTO, providing the specific conditions, requirements and expected profile of candidates for the Workshop. The other WTO Members and Observers will receive a letter of invitation from the Government of Singapore. Only candidates officially nominated by their national authorities will be considered. Applications received through other channels will not be acknowledged.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: External speakers will represent the perspectives of international organizations, namely WIPO and WCO, regional and non-governmental organizations, as well as business and civil society associations.
