All seventy-seven patients were infected in Korea.

aNumber of PCR amplicons and GenBankaccession no. of the earliest sample at one time point (grossly deleted one and sequences with premature stop codons were excluded).

bIn the present study, earlier sample than October 2002 in the previous reports was used.

cSamples obtained after 2000 on HAART were used for PCR, suggesting a long time lag.

d Two recipients were transfused with blood donated from donor JWK on October 28, 1989.

e Patient 04KMH5 was infected with HIV-1 from his husband 92KJS11.

DCF, Homo, HE, and trans denotes that patient was infected with contaminated domestic clotting factor 9, homosexual contact, heterosexual contact, and transfusion, respectively.
