Dear Sierra Vista Parents,

This will be the fourth year that the English department at Sierra Vista Junior High will be assigning “Enriched” students to teams. Each team’s English class will have a cohort of enriched students. The enriched students will have differentiated instruction in class in addition to additional assignments. Twice per quarter, the enriched students will complete an extra assignment including, but not limited to one of the following:

●Designing a “Spotlight on Reading” book review

●Writing a response to a text that connects with one read in class

●Making a creative response to a novel

●Graphing and analyzing word parts and phrases from two different texts
*Additional options may be added throughout the year

These assignments will be collected and will be assessed by the English teacher. The student must score an 80% or higher on each enriched assignment. If not, they will be returned to the student and due back to the teacher at an assigned time. Also, the enriched students will read one additional SRC novel (three total) each quarter and take an SRC test on it. If a student misses turning in an assignment, or does not score 80% or higher on the assignment after corrections have been made, they will be pulled from Enriched English, and will not be recommended for Honors English in 9th grade.

At the end of the 2015-2016 school year,students who have completed all Enriched assignments will be recommendedby their 8th grade English teacher at Sierra Vista for Honors English in 9th grade, even if they must still complete an application.
