Sierra Vista and Assignments:

All Sierra Vista students were given a student calendar planner (Binder Reminder) on their first day of school or at registration. Please review the Binder Reminder with your student because the first several pages contain important information about the school and school rules. In all academic classes, the teacher will encourage your child to have a routine to take out the student planner to write down that night’s homework in class. Homework is almost always posted for students to record in the classroom in a specific area. If there is no homework, your child should write no homework. Check the planner nightly to make sure that your child is completing all of the homework. It is important you make sure your child is writing their homework down nightly for all classes a this is an important part of being successful at Sierra Vista.

If you’re worried that your child may not be writing down all of the homework, you can ask him/her to see the teacher after class and the teacher will initial the daily homework assignment when it is written in the Binder Reminder. Please remember that it is your child’s responsibility to write down the assignment, complete the assignment, and turn in the assignment on time. We believe that the student planner is an invaluable communication tool between school and home. Please use it to monitor your child’s homework on a regular basis. We find that students who use the student planner regularly and complete all assignments are successful at Sierra Vista.

Once the homework has been completed and you have checked it for completion against the binder reminder, the student should be turning homework in or in some cases it will be recorded by the teacher in class and kept with the student for reference.

Teachers record completed and graded work on to their Infinite Campus(IC) gradebook portal. All students and parents may have IC access to check current grades and for missing assignments. If you need a parent account please see the instructions to sign up for one on our website. Please note: If an assignment is marked *missing* in IC: when the teacher graded and entered the student's grades into the gradebook, your student did not have the assignment completed and turned in, so the teacher marked it missing for your student. This may mean the student may have forgotten to turn it in when it was due, or that perhaps they didn’t put their name on it.

Students are also responsible to make up work when they are absent from school. Please have your student check to see if they have the missing assignment, and then have them speak with the teacher about any assignments marked missing to resolve this concern. All assignments count towards a student's grade so ensuring all assignments (homework, classwork and projects) are completed is very important to a student’s grade in the class.
