Prelude

Welcome/Announcements

*Call to Worship —based on Isaiah 43:19-21

Leader: Let us worship God, who has done great things.

Congregation: We rejoice in our God, who made a way

through the desert of this world.

Leader: Let us worship God, who has caused streams of mercy

to flow in the wasteland.

Congregation: We are the people God has formed through Christ;

we worship him, and we rejoice!

Leader: Let us worship God in spirit and in truth.

Congregation: We praise God for the grace that has saved us.

Alleluia! We rejoice!

*God’s Greeting

*We Greet One Another

*Song of Praise: “O Praise the Lord, for It Is Good” Gray # 187: all

WE ARE RENEWED IN THE GRACE OF GOD

Call to Confession —based on Isaiah 58:6-8, NRSV:

“Is not this the fast I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice;

to share your bread with the hungry; to bring the homeless poor into your house;

to clothe the naked? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly.” Having heard these promises, let us confess our sins.

Prayer of Confession in unison: God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost. We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained and great when we are small. We have failed in love, neglected justice, and ignored your truth. Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness—from 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Peter 2:24, NRSV: This saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we, free from sins, might live for righteousness; by his wounds we have been healed.

Today is a new day, rising fresh from the Creator’s hand. Today we begin again, with praise and thanks to God who made us, to Christ who redeemed us, and to the Spirit who supports and guides us. Here we participate in the fellowship of the Forgiven, the Church. Here we gather strength and wisdom for the days before us. It is good to be together today.

Missionary Support: Would you be interested in an entertaining and educational way to learn more about homeless and at-rick youth (and at the same time support World Missionary Rev. Joel Van Dyke)? Here it is: On Saturday, March 22, at 7 pm, in the BJ Haan Auditorium at Dordt College the documentary film “Becoming Fools” is scheduled to be shown. It tells the story of Joel’s friend, Italo Castro, a professional clown, who was ministering to street kids in Guatemala. Then tragedy strikes. This would be a great opportunity for an evangelism or a missions committee or a study group to be introduced to the issues which could begin a discussion about how God might be calling us to be involved. Tickets are $10 on line and $12 at the door. You can learn more about this event and buy tickets by following the links at: www.becomingfools.com

PASSION PLAY CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS/COORDINATOR NEEDED FOR THE PASSION PLAY (April 18, 2014): The OCMA is asking for childcare volunteers, at least one for each of the three performances from each church if possible. (3:00 to 5:00 pm, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.) We also need a coordinator to oversee the childcare and will pay that person $250 to fill that role.
