Procedure for making new “Polar Styled” worksheets for structures currently not supported in Si8000m (Excel)

Due to limited space, file size worksheets for all structures are not supported in Si8000m Excel Interface. For Coplanar models worksheet for only the first structure in the category is provided. Whilst accessing other structures you will see the message as shown below.

In case you wish to make Polar Styled worksheets, then follow the instructions given below to make additional structures currently not supported in Si8000m – Excel version.

Following Step A is VERY IMPORTANT

Step A – Creating a Si8000m Graphics Worksheet

Step 1 - Launch – Si8000m (Excel) by double clicking the Si8000m icon on Desktop

Step 2 - Move Cursor to Si8000m worksheet (bottom), Right Mouse Click to access “Move or Copy…”

Step 3 – Tick “Create a Copy” box and Choose “(New Book)” from “To books” drop down menu

Step 4 – Goto “Tools” – “Protection” – “Unprotect Sheet..”.

Step 5 – Unprotect Sheet by tying password – polar (all in lower case – it is case sensitive)

Step 6 – Save Sheet as “Si8000m Graphics” on Desktop or any other directory on your computer (from where it can be easily accessed later).

Step 7 – Close both the Si8000m and Si8000m Graphics excel files

STEP B – Creating a Worksheet under Si8000m (Excel)

Step 1 – Re-Launch Si8000m again. Select “No” so that you can save the Si8000m file after making the new Structure Sheet.

Step 2 – Select the First Structure in the group for which you wish to make a new Polar Styled excel worksheet. In this example we will use – “Surface Coplanar Strips with Gnd 1B”

Step 3 – Move Cursor to select Surface Coplanar Strips 1B, click right mouse button, tick box of “Create a Copy” and scroll down in the “Before Sheet” box to put the sheet before “Coated Coplanar Strips 1B” or after “Surface Coplanar Strips 1B”. You can choose to create the sheet at End (move to end) of excel file. The new sheet position can be changed later.

Step 4 - A new sheet “Surface Coplanar Strips 1B (2)” will be created. Take the cursor to the Sheet tab, right mouse click and select “Rename”. The name of the sheet will be highlighted and you can now change the name to “Surface Coplanar with Gnd 1B” by typing the name. Excel limits the total number of characters for naming a worksheet to 31. So for the Example we have used the name as “Surface Coplanar with Gnd 1B”.

Step 5 - Take the Cursor to the Area where the Name of sheet is written on Top (row 2). Change the Cell by retyping “Surface Coplanar Strips with Gnd 1B”. Press Enter to update the name.

Step 6 – Select “Tools” – “Protection” – “Unprotect Sheet..” from the Menu and Unprotect the sheet by tying password - polar

Step 7 – Select the Graphic Image by moving cursor on top, right mouse and choose “Cut”. Graphics will disappear.

Step 8 – Launch or Open “Si8000m Graphics” file (created earlier in Step A).Select the Graphics of the Structure for which you wish to make a new worksheet under Si8000m (excel) e.g. Surface Coplanar Strips with Ground 1B, right mouse click and “copy”

Step 9 – Go back to Si8000 Excel File and “Paste Special” graphics on the “Surface Coplanar with Gnd 1B” worksheet. Move and adjust the graphics to adjust to right size.

Select Picture (enhanced Metafile) Press “OK”

Reposition and Adjust the Picture by dragging the cursor

Step 10 – Select the “Zo” cell – in this case K5 by moving and clicking the cursor on the cell to redefine the formula.

Step 11 – Press “Delete” key on the Keyboard to clear the cell. Do not use “Delete” command from right button mouse click menu of Excel. It will ask you to shift cells etc. that will corrupt the sheet.

Step 12 – Select Function (fx) from the Menu bar

Step 13 – Select “User Defined” from Function Category window (on left) and “SurfaceCoplanarstripswithlowerGnd1B” from the Function Name window (on right). Press “OK”. This procedure is the same as defined in Si8000m User Manual (page 35 onwards).

Step 14 – Link H1 to B5 by selecting cell B5 with cursor and clicking on the same. Repeat for linking Er1 to C5, W1 to D5 until Calculation Type to J5. Finally Press “OK”.

Excel will complete the calculations; update the cell with predicted Zo value. The Worksheet is now ready for use in the normal way.

Step 15 – Go to “Si8000” main sheet, select – “Unprotect the Sheet by selecting “Tools” – “Protection” – “Unprotect Sheet..”, password is polar (lower case)

Step 21 – Protect your new worksheet by repeating Step 22. password - polar

Step 22 – Finally remember to save the file. Go to “File” – “Save” so that you can access the worksheet later.
