THE SMART INVESTMENT PROGRAM
RESOLUTION NO. 59
A RESOLUTION of the Board of Trustees of Shoreline Community
College to endorse the community and technical college system’s public
Relations program: The SMART Investment Campaign.
WHEREAS, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges and the Washington Association of Community and Technical College Presidents have cooperatively supported and directed the development of a college system public relations program over the last four years; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the program is to create a strong and unified statewide message about the importance of community and technical college’s to the state’s economy; and
WHEREAS, the system agrees that community and technical colleges are the smartest investment because: (1) we are the pre-eminent providers of workforce training that ensures the health of Washington’s economy, (2) we empower people by reducing functional illiteracy, and (3) education is a significant social program that ensures the opportunity for self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, the community and technical college system needs to continue to build strong support in college communities, with the public, and the Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the long-term vitality of our college system rests on our ability to effectively communicate mission and our needs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees for Shoreline Community College endorse a strategic plan to coordinate our public relation efforts; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Shoreline Community College will join in this effort by using SMART Investment themes and materials whenever possible to increase community and legislative support for this institution, as well as the statewide system of community and technical colleges.
