‘UnstFest Colours’ Half Marathon

Meet at Belmont Ferry Terminal, Unst at 10.00amRace Start: 10.30am

‘UnstFest Colours’ Half Marathon is a fun race, fancy dress is optional. The route takes you through Uyeasound, onto Baltasound and finishes in Haroldswick. The start line is atBelmont Ferry Terminal, the finishisat the Haroldswick Hall. Parking available at both Belmont Ferry Terminal and the Haroldswick Hall. Spectators are welcome along the route to cheer on runners!

As this run is on the main road, runners are to keep to the right side of the road, there are 4 cattle grids on the route.

Runner 1 (2.47 miles) – Follow the main road to the first junction into Uyeasound, turn right and follow the road down to Gardiesfauld Youth Hostel and the old pier

1st changeover. Uyeasound old pier.

Runner 2 (2.03 miles) – Follow the road around the shore turning left at Mid Ayre, coming back up onto the main road, turn right towards Baltasound.

2nd changeover. At the end of the Gunnister road

Runner 3 (2.0 miles) - Follow the main road towards Baltasound to the telecom tower at the top of Caldback

Runner 4 (2.50 miles) - Follow the main road into Baltasound, turn left at the first junction, turn right at the crossroads behind the school and right again to come past the school and leisure centre, follow the road around to the left down to the crossroads, turn left to the T junction at the old fire station.

Runner 5 (2.20 miles) – Turn right towards the police house, turn right at the Police house, go down Gutter Street and turn left past Springpark Road, carry on around Buness to Baltasound Pier and follow the road round to the left, go up past the Baltasound Hotel to the main road and turn right towards Haroldswick onto P&T Coaches.

5th changeover. At P&T Coaches

Runner 6 (1.90 miles) – Follow the main road north to Haroldswick, go straight on at Brookpoint, turn right at the white brig and continue along this road to the finish line at the Haroldswick Hall.

Race time limit: 3 hours. After this time stewarding may be removed but runners can continue to the finish.

All competitors must be 16 years or over. All competitors will receive a medaland certificate. If you want a T-shirt please state size and make payment on the entry form. First Aid and water will be available at each of the changeover points and at the finish. Prize -giving at the finish line at theHaroldswick Hall.

Individuals can run the full distance or teams can consist of 3 or 6 runners, 3 runners will each run two legs, 6 runners will run one leg each. Each leg is between 2 and 2.5 miles.

I declare that I am medically fit to compete in endurance events and that I participate in this event entirely at my own risk and I acknowledge that this event is a test of my fitness and has with it the potential of serious injury or property loss.

The risks of participation include, but are not restricted to, weather conditions, road traffic, behaviour of other participants, volunteer helpers, officials and spectators and dehydration. Entrants are reminded that they have to obey all highway/traffic laws, as well as follow all directions of the police and marshals during the race. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification. I hereby, aware of these, assume the risks of participating in this event and I agree to waive any claim and to release and discharge from any claim which I or they may have in respect of death, disability, injury, property loss or damage as a result of or while I am participating in the event, the event organisers, officials, administrators or volunteer helpers. I accept that no refund can be given due to cancellation or postponement of the event due to circumstances outside the Organisers’ control. Entries cannot be refunded to entrants who do not eventually take part in the race.
