Summer School Info for the website
The 2015 Summer school ran from Monday 24th until Thursday 27th August and aimed to develop: team-working skills, building friendships, numeracy and literacy.
Day 1: Arts and Technology
Students did a carousel of five activities:
1: In technology they made their own pencil cases.
2: In drama they explored Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to create their own chocolate machines.
3: In art they explored the work of Quentin Blake.
4: In English they created their own descriptions of chocolate.
5: In languages they learnt about chocolate around the world.
Day 2: Team Building Day
Students took part in 3 sessions:
1: Circus Skills- A really successful session that taught our boys how to juggle and work together to create a short circus based performance.
2: Sports and Games- This involved a selection of team games that helped the boys build positive relationships and get to know each other.
3: It’s a Knock Out- A really fun activity which involved student working together and competing in teams.
Day 3 & 4: Trips
We visited Cadbury World and the Birmingham Think Tank museum on day three. The students had a fantastic time learning about the human body, Birmingham transport, how the Cadbury family started and of course eating chocolate!!! A very busy and exciting day.
On day four we went to the Space Centre in Leicester and students learnt about the space race, the history of our universe and the role Britain has in the space programme. We returned to school at 2.30 for a short ‘Oscar’ style ceremony, which was attended by parents. This was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of a successful four days.
Summer School ran like clockwork due to the support I had from all the staff involved and our outstanding student helpers.
