Sherry Tross

Sherry Tross is Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). Previously, she served as political advisor and principal speechwriter for the Assistant Secretary General. From 2003-2005, she was Director of Business Development at the World Trade Center Miami. Prior to that, Ms. Tross served as Program Director for the University of Miami’s North-South Center, an independent research and educational institution focusing on the political, social, economic, and security issues affecting the citizens of the Western Hemisphere. In that capacity, she conducted research on trade policy, wrote extensively and organized more than 400 international conferences and training workshops. She was the editor of the North-South Update policy brief, a bi-weekly newsletter that focused primarily on trade and security issues. She also served as security policy liaison with the US Army War College and US Southern Command and was involved in conceptualizing and executing a series of high-level programs on security policy and strategy for senior military personnel from more than 20 countries in North, South and Central America, and the Caribbean. Ms. Tross worked as a Research Fellow for the University of Miami’s Caribbean Program from 1992-1994, drafting papers on regional trade agreements and the effects of globalization on small states. She has also provided consulting services for government agencies and private companies. Ms. Tross has been a speaker, commentator and rapporteur at public for a on trade, gender, corporate social responsibility and a range of Caribbean issues and has guest lectured on the same topics. In 2003, she served as co-director of the Americas Trade and Sustainable Development Forum which paralleled the VIII FTAA Trade Ministerial in Miami. She holds a B.A. in Spanish and Government from Hamilton College,New York and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Miami.
